Hi all. I have read some posts about fluoresence-- I am trying to grasp how it affects the way a stone''s color looks.

I am very interested in this stone which is a J color with Medium blue fluoro.

http://search.virtcert.com/cgi/u/1012/v.cgi?stock=8976464&_s=1012&_p=sdf348gd743&_c=&_fs=1&prestock=&_ln=ps

What do you all think? I imagine I''d really like to see photos of it, but do you think I could expect it to look like an I? Or would it be brighter? Or warmer? If it would appear sufficiently white, it looks to be a big money saver over other stones of similar size and better color....

And can someone explain to me how on other posts people have used some calculations or sites to see how sparkly it would be?

Opinions very welcome! thanks all!

Please, do yourself a favor and do not buy a stone relying on fluorescence. I will keep my opinion on the topic toned down, but if you are buying a J-color diamond, it''s J-color. GIA found that really only strong fluorescence in lower-color stones showed a noticeable improvement in face-up appearance when stimulated by UV-mixed light. My personal opinion: a 3+ carat stone in J-color is not my cup of tea.

The fluoro is likely a postive, not a negative.

The cut quality is on a border line of too deep http://www2.gia.edu/reportcheck/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showReportVerification&reportno=17261559&weight=3.07

34.5 crown with 41.2 pav
It is very unlikely to be eye clean at 3ct, and if it is then it will be cluody and not as sparkly.

I strongly suggest you have it sent first to an appraiser.

Ditto Garry. It is a big stone and due to the angle configuration might show more tint from the J colour also, double ditto the appraiser if you want to purchase it.
