I''ve been looking for a nice emerald-cut diamond for my girlfriend (and soon to be fiance). Naturally, I want to get the size and cut as nice and as well-proportioned as possible. And I know it may sound tacky but I''d like to wow her with the size (I''m a man afterall!). I haven''t had a great deal of luck but I have found one diamond that appears to tick most boxes: 1.10carat, good ratio & size, nice table & depth ... BUT ... "J color".
Reading your threads, I get a strong impression that anything lower that an H is no good for an emerald cut. I can understand why that might be; they are flatter and thus less forgiving.
However, I also know that my girlfriend likes satin yellow gold & thin shanks. Would a J color stone look better on yellow gold? Or will it all go horribly yellow?
I was going to have the prongs in platinum.
Thoughts/experiences welcome!!
