IYO, now that the admin have banned political topics...

b/c I wanna post my opinion.

Sorry it wasn't clear that I was being somewhat facetious. I meant about the paying part. I can see why some would pay to join a forum to verbally punch, bully, dominate others, but why would someone pay to be a punching bag?

Will you be my bodyguard? The liberals had been punching me since 2008... boxinggy2.gif and I'm still standing! .. :praise:

I am very happy political discussions have been banned. I am here for the bling and think traffic wii pick up.
Why??. Aren't you being selfish?. There are many PSers love talking politics. IMO, we should ban all the dogs and cat thread.

@Luce , How we you being forced to read political threads? There are many threads on Pricescope that don’t interest me. I don’t read them.

There are so many important discussions at this time that involve politics to some degree.

A lot going on just this morning! I never understood those complaining about political threads either. Especially those (and not saying Luce was one!) that complained and reported, all while participating.

@ItsMainelyYou , Have you heard the news today? WOW

Ayuh.
I read all the news. I am compiler and distillation for the people in my life who do not have the time for nuance or wading.
It is purely coincidental, but it has to be about the worst time to nix political threads. What is happening is historically significant. It's just a pile lately. Total fallout. So much more is coming.

Maybe I am selfish but when even the titles of some of the posts become offensive and slanderous that is where I draw the line.

I did report one post.

I’m not forced to read political threads and usually stay out of them. I do take offense when even the titles of threads are untrue and slanderous.

@Luce . No one likes being lied to.

We are hoping to have a political forum where no would have to see it if they were not interested in politics. Posting in a location outside of hangout would eliminate people from seeing any political if they aren’t interested in politics.

What happen to the Political Discussion Subscription Service Membership
thread?

Apparently, I offended a great many Pricescopers by asking those who weren't interested in the subscription membership being discussed but were still complaining about it to "please butt out" of it, since smitcompton asked only for responses of those interested and since what was being discussed would not affect them in any way whatsoever and would be essentially virtually invisible to them.

I stand by what I said, it was said not only by me but national news sites and politicians.

The thing that you don't understand is that changes to PS effect everyone here. Especially a paid subscription service, that would essentially change the entire environment & it's illogical to not expect others to come and share their opinion, of which you will naturally get differing ones. A lot of us shared it respectfully I may add.
It's truly everyone's PS.

As far as your comment, which was written as "BUTT OUT", yes it was rude. I personally felt saddened that you felt the need to say that. All you had to do was post a response saying you disagreed. I just don't think PS is the place for disrespectful speech. Debate and discourse is wonderful & would have helped those of us who oppose it to understand this plan you have, but when you just say what you did, you lose all grace.

Try to see it from this perspective. There are several here who don't like political threads They complain, report, and do everything they can to shut down politics, when all the have to do is not participate in threads they don't like. Simple. Then, when its finally shut down, a work around is proposed - an out of sight forum. And since this will require work from the administration that they would not normally have to do, a minimal subscription price is proposed, with people willing to help pay for those who can't. An area that wouldn't even be visible unless you signed up for it. And even this is not ok with those who don't want politics anyway. Very authoritarian of some people. "I don't like it, I don't want it, and you shouldn't have it either" is what I'm getting from some.

I think most of the people who reported the political threads didn't dislike political speech or discourse but was tired of what could be seen as increasingly rude and disrespectful speech. A lot of people were respectful and kind on the political forums. A lot of people weren't & I am with those that just got tired of the people who weren't. That is what needs to be understood.

And yet I saw posts by people who were participating in the threads that they didn't want political discussions. Politics is going to get heated, definitely. And what one person views as disrespectful might be viewed by another as being passionate. And maybe its best that politics does get moved out of view, thus the proposal.

I just think that there's a big line between passionate speech and what is essentially hate speech that can be easily understood by any rational human being.

While political debate is fun and insightful I don't think it has a place on this forum as some people cannot just be passionate.

I think it does have a place on this forum, because some of the members want it here. I just hope they allow it as the paid, out of sight forum that's been requested.

I understand that your response was likely motivated by frustration and anger and the world would be a better place if people recognized that sometimes a venting of those emotions is simply human. Those who virtue signal that one should NEVER be rude, angry, and not perfect ALL THE TIME are unrealistic and they should begin to model perfection perfectly rather than simply judge others as imperfect.

An out of sight Political forum would solve all these problems and make everyone happy.

@TheGarnetGirl , Do you realize arguments have broken out in many threads (not just political) over the years on PS?

Yes. This exactly.

@TheGarnetGirl, I'm sorry to have made you feel sad - that is not my intent. But do you realize that all of you who came to that thread to complain about and try to block what was being proposed were being disrespectful to smitcompton, who was very specific in what she asked for in that thread? Do those of you who want to block any possibility of Pricescope members willingly talking politics realize or care how saddened and grieved we are about the loss of the ability to do so? Do you realize how dictatorial things are getting? @Demon has described it here perfectly. There was never any indication that what happened in political threads carried over into other threads prior, so why would a subforum "invisible" to those not interested affect others? As I said in the other thread, if people would find that it would begin to carry over into other areas of Pricescope, even though it hasn't before, people would be free to register their issues with that with moderators and forum owners. Why do you feel that it is your place to control how some consenting adult forum members speak to other consenting adult forum members in a place where you never need see it or be aware of it unless you wish to be? Everyone who would be signing up would be doing so fully knowing that folks will be disagreeing on things, that folks will be passionate, that things could get heated, that they might hear any manner of "tough talk," that they definitely won't like everything that is said or how it's said, but want to be there anyway. Maybe, deep down, they even like it that way. That's their choice. Why should you have the power to take that away from them? Why should you have the power to dictate to other adults, in a forum in which you have chosen to not be a part, what is acceptable speech?

Thank you, @Matata - I appreciate your compassion. I'm frankly very upset at what I'm seeing happen around here. I really had embraced this place as more than just a place to learn about and look at pretty sparkly things, believing that I had found my "tribe" even if people rubbed each other the wrong way sometimes, as people do. I hate to see it turn into a place where people are afraid to speak authentically to one another. I'm not talking about egregious, over-the-top viciousness or bullying; obviously that should not be tolerated. I mean people being real with one another, with differing opinions and yes, human emotions, sometimes. Talking things through and hashing them out if someone gets upset, so that they can come away understanding each other better and growing as people, rather than running to the poor overworked moderators over every little thing to get others and any speech they personally don't like "shut down."

The header for Pricescope Cafe right below;

Pricescope café

Aren't you bored discussing diamonds and jewelry? Let's talk about anything but diamonds!

found in the cafe as a topic is HANGOUT, the header is right

Hangout is under found in Pricescope Cafe.

Hangout

Hang about diamonds and non-diamond issues that are not exactly related to diamond education and consumer’ assistance.

Adding another topic under Pricescope Cafe with a heading;

Political Discussions.

Then people perusing Hangout will not have to read a thread that has politics in it's heading.

Most of the PSers on this thread claim that they didn't reported political posts to the admin, but Ella said she received numerous complaints about political posts, so which of you not telling the truth? :Up_to_something:

Have you considered the possibility it's someone who doesn't speak up who's doing the numerous complaints and reporting? You don't have to post on a thread to report a concern; just pointing that out.

That's what I had been proposing all along.
