IYO, now that the admin have banned political topics...

Many topics can be linked back to politic even a haircut.

Nancy P, I need a haircut too. Please don't report me to Ella... :shhh:

It was bound to happen. I see videos every day on socials with people screaming at each other and being dragged out of places because they’re butthurt about some ridiculous thing or another. Cannot imagine having had to moderate the political threads here. Kudos to @Ella for not losing her ever-loving mind over all of it. Oh, and to answer the question, sure, there will be a downturn in traffic for a minute...until DF stirs up more drama.

No offense to @Dancing Fire, but I don't think he has THAT much influence over traffic regardless of how much drama is cooked up.

I'd be very interested to see the analytics, actually. ;)2

Drama? Me? Nahhh...Maybe you guys meant Kenny?

There are so many platforms for discussing politics. I’m very happy with the moderators decision. I’m now visiting hangout more. I come here to escape the madness and dream of beautiful jewels and see all the great finds.

I’m so glad you’re back @Mayk ❤️

Most of the PSers on this thread claim that they didn't reported political posts to the admin, but Ella said she received numerous complaints about political posts, so which of you not telling the truth? :Up_to_something:

Hi,

Yesterday I tried to join thepoliticalforum.com, which I mentioned before. I am wary now, because my 2 email addresses won't accept an email conformation from that site. Comcast states they cannot determine the origin of that email from that site. G-mail will also not accept.

Outside influences-Russia, China - and misinformation is rampant on the web, so we are told. I wish others on here to be cautious in joining that forum. I have decided to forego it.

Pass this info along when you see a need for it.

Thanks,
Annette

I would never join any political forum. Hope Andrey would reconsider a political sub forum under PS cafe.

A separate political forum would solve the problem and keep all PSers happy

It was never difficult to visit Hangout and not read political threads. The thread titles states the content of the thread. It‘s disingenuous to act as though you had no choice. Not everyone Is going to agree with our opinions. That’s life. We all grow and change. Our opinions also change as a result.

@Karl_K , It seems a bit hypocritical of you to come here saying the site would be better without the political threads when you were a frequent participant in the political threads. If they bothered you, why on earth were you on them ALL the time?

One would think the more eyes on Pricescope would be a plus for those making money from this site. Who knows what the next year will bring with the pandemic. Does PS really want to turn traffic away?

I too am hoping Andrey and @Ella change their minds too. I have always found PS a welcoming community. Having a political section certainly didn‘t change that opinion. If you aren’t interested in a topic or interested in others opinions on the topic, stay out of it. We are all adults here.

Hi,

This is a business site. Does anyone think that we could have a subscription service on a sub forum for 3.00 per month? Andry could make some money, those that think politics are a bad idea, won't be able to read the posts. Are we rich old white women? Any comments? Those that have opposed political posts --not allowed.

Annette

Could also be viewed as renting space from PS

I'm not rich and I'm not white, so it should be free for DF.

Oh I totally reported a few posts over the years. Not ashamed of it either. The rules are for everyone or for no one.

It is your idea you should Email Andrey. ;))

@Dancing Fire, Did you ever seriously feel like you were being abused here? I wish you would quit saying this. This could be part of the reason the politcal threads were shut down.

@1ofakind, Why did you continue to post in the political threads?

Why would anyone who doesn't fit into the political mainstream here want do that?

Yes, but it doesn't bother me. :praise: had never use the report button. I'm not a cry baby... ;( :praise:

Hi,

Of course DF you are always included. Rich old Asian men are welcomed.

One of a Kind--I did suggest once that people use a thread for liberals and /or one for conservatives so that each group could express their own point of view without arguing from the other group. People like to discuss these things with like minded people. I actually read that endorphins are released when people agree with you and you feel better.(Or something that started with an S, I think)

DF again. I'd like to see what others have to say about the idea. I'm just not willing to pay more than my Costco subscription.

What do you think of having a video of some jewelry making classes? A simple necklace or earrings might be an attraction to pricescope.. Our usual vendors don't deal in this. We have someone who does this on our boards. Stacie

I've never had a time-out, but I've not been around as long as lots of others here. I always try to talk to others here the same way I would if I was sitting in a room with them, and they could see my face and knew my name. (And yes, I'm as annoyingly verbose in person as in writing - DH can attest to that!)

I've also never reported anyone. It frankly never even occurred to me to do so. In my opinion, sometimes things get heated - that's part of life, and so is learning how to move on from it. So is accepting that some people disagree with me, and that some people even act like jerks, especially on the internet. If I don't want to deal with that, I have the choice not to participate in those threads. If I don't like reading it, I have the choice not to read them. It never changed how I made decisions about reading or participating in other non-controversial threads or subs here. If I think someone is being abusive and I want to call them on it, I do. If not, I don't. I've also seen jewelry threads get VERY heated - not often for sure, but there have been a few that left me saying "WOW!" more than any of the political ones.

DH and I were actually talking a few days ago, and we came to the conclusion that for democratic nations to hold onto their democracies, their populations are going to have to learn skills around the internet that we just don't seem to have yet. As a society, we seem to have developed no coping skills for, or "immunity" to, the ways that tech companies, and the media outlets that use tech, engineer their products to continually "hook" us into giving them our attention, our clicks, our data, our trust, our fear, or our outrage, even when we begin to figure out that the relationship has become dysfunctional for us, both as individuals and as a society. We also don't have the requisite critical thinking skills to wade through the overwhelming flood of information and opinions in which we are immersed each day in a way that leaves us equipped to come to sound conclusions. I don't think that the tech companies or media outlets are going to change their tactics, so in my opinion, while I believe there is a place for platforms to delete some really egregious material and falsehoods, especially if coming from what should be trusted authority figures, I think the burden should be on us for the most part to develop the skills to allow us to handle discourse in the way best for our own well-being - to grow in that way - rather than expect platforms to "shelter" us from needing to do so. I think that's the best course for society overall. That said, there is also the burden on moderators on a platform to consider. If I were in charge of a platform, I would allow discussion about whatever topics members wished, but I would also let them know that the moderation touch on controversial topics would be very, very light - only spam and really deeply egregious stuff. All other complaints would fall on blissfully deaf ears.

Just my opinion on the topic in general.

While I agree with most of your posts and generally the discussions are heated but work out. For the most part. But the minute you call someone a racist or a white supremacist, which I have been called both here, then you have lost every stitch of grace you might have gotten. Those are the ones who get reported by me. Those are the people who I imagine yell at others in restaurants or other public places. Those are the people with whom no rational discussion can be had about any subject. We all have a level of tolerance which is different for everyone. JMHO.

Although I would occasionally post on political forums, I didnt find them to be particularly enthralling & found that the amount of rudeness & disrespect towards eachother was ramping up higher and higher. I totally understand why admin got rid of them. Although the world isn't a kind place this forum for the most part is, and I can understand wanting to defend & uphold that ideal.

I too wish to keep this site on task as it's a getaway for me, a comfy corner of the world to post my gems and oogle at others'!

If the admin were to reconsider, what I wouldn't be opposed to would be reinstating the political threads but removing the ability for them to show up on the recent thread side bar which is constantly there. That way those that enjoy the political threads can seek them out and keep track of them via alerts & those of us who'd rather stay away won't see them constantly & be tempted.

I feel like you’re talking about me here, and I just wanted to say I’m sorry I’ve ever called you a racist or white supremist. I don’t know you well enough to make that call, but I will continue to point out the racist language used on this forum. Using racist language doesn’t make one racist, but it’s still inappropriate.
I just wanted to clear that up. I also don’t yell in restaurants, but do hold my friends and family to the same standard and call our their racist language as well.

While I can appreciate your viewpoint when delivered in a respectful manner, I don't appreciate my speech being policed. I have the distinct pleasure of having known literally thousands of criminals and to me they are all the word you don't like. You will have to come to terms with that yourself or not.

You don’t want your speech being policed but will report posts? Isn’t that policing? Language also evolves and changes, and recognizing that doesn’t make someone a Karen. We should also be evolving and learning.

Anyways, the point of my post was an apology for past incidents that I may have been a part of. I don’t want to derail the thread so I’ll leave it at that ☺️ It’s the last long weekend of summer and no one should spend it with an ounce of anger! Enjoy your Saturday redwood!
