Hi everyone!

After months of skulking and lurking and reading and searching, I've managed to find a good enough stone (it's not big, I'm too embarrassed to refer to it as a rock).
It would be great if you could provide some feedback on whether it is something worth buying.
It's not the most expensive stone, but uggghhh, it IS a tight budget :(2.
Also, if anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to chime in!

Budget: $1600USD and below
Preferred Carat: 0.71 and above
Preferred Cut: Excellent
Preferred Colour: J and lower (I don't think I want a stone that is too yellow)
Preferred Clarity: As long as it is eye-clean
Preferred Fluorescence: Faint/Medium?
Ring: Platinum/white gold

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Lovely diamond. If you love it you should make sure it is put on hold.
They also have a range of platinum rings, starting at around $500 and it’s often less hassle to get the diamond and the ring mount from the same vendor and then they will also set the diamond as well.
Congratulations on your excellent shopping.

Great find!! Remember: Cut is King, around here!! You don’t have to have a 2+ ct honker for people to appreciate a beautifully cut sparkler! This is a beautiful diamond! :mrgreen2:
I have not found anything for comparison that is better, against what you have found. Your stone scores a 2.6 on the HCA Tool. Typically, people here stay under 2, but that doesn't mean you should eliminate this stone.
If I were you, I’d reach out to other vendors to see if they are able to source diamonds within your price range & preferences for comparison (even B2C Jewels) to determine if this is the diamond for you. ;)2

Agreed!! Place it on hold!!!

Thanks for the feedback!
I have emailed them to put on hold, fingers crossed!
I don't know if I want to get the ring online though.. The designs are gorgeous, but I'm all the way in Singapore, and if it doesn't fit well, it would be way too much of a hassle to send it back.

Good luck with your purchase!

It’s taken me 18 months to be happy with making an online purchase! You’ll be fine

I understand your reluctance. I’m in the U.S. My DH & I recently purchased diamonds from Yoram Finkelstein @ GemConcepts, LTD @diagem, based in Israel. It was our first online diamond purchase, and a tremendous leap of faith, but we couldn’t have asked for better service, better communication, or a better suite of diamonds, if we had tried. The process was flawless & smoothe, and Yoram made the experience so stress-free. He was a gem to work with. He’s a diamond cutter, not a jeweler, so I am having the setting made & diamonds set, here, in the U.S. This is my one of a kind, bespoke Anniversary Band. If you have a reputable jeweler who is willing to set your stone for you, I see no harm in doing it that way. Just keep in mind, you will have to ensure they will insure the diamond, while it is in their possession, during setting. You also must confirm they are comfortable working with/handling a diamond they did not sell you. If there is an extended care plan or warranty they offer, your diamond will not be covered under that; it’s not their stone.
All things to keep in mind.

When stones are a bit out of the HCA range, I look at the "why" to determine if I would personally reject or not. In this case, the CA is a bit off. But, with GIA rounding, I find that it very likely this is worth pursuing. If the vendor can provide ASET or IS, even better.

I do like having options, so I like @farrahlyn guidance to check ID Jewelry in New York. They also have nice and affordable settings.

Thanks you guys for all the great info and encouragement.
I've placed my order and settled for a ring setting too, arrrggghhhh so excited!
I'll update this thread with a pic of it when it arrives!

Yay!! Which diamond did you choose?

I stuck with the one I found!
@farrahlyn 's suggestions were great, but I don't mind a lower colour grade for a stone that was a little bigger.
Also B2C has nicer settings, and are currently having a discount of at least 10% for settings!

I’m glad you stuck with your own; I like it!!! Looking forward to seeing the finished ring & HAND SHOTS!!! :mrgreen2:

My ring has arrived @Matthews1127 !! Sorry for the bad pics though..
I chose to set it in a white gold vintage setting as I'm an old soul like that :D
Ring is a size 6 due to my huge knuckles.

I may be a jewellery noob, but I think the 0.72 stone looks pretty big, and oh so sparkly!
I've got to wait till next month till my BF asks my dad for my hand before he puts the ring on me.
And yeah, I pretty much have to get my own ring as BF would rather I get something that I want.

Awww thank you!
I would love to have a more elaborate ring with filigree and all the bells and whistles of an art deco ring, but I'd like to use a wedding band that sits flush with it and damn that budget constraint..
I'll leave it for a milestone upgrade :kiss2:

I totally understand!! Do you have any wedding rings in mind?

that is a beautiful stone and ring, one i would be very proud of. congrats on your great find & future engagement!

Congratulations, what a beautiful ring! It looks perfect on you! Can't he propose NOW!!!!?????:appl:

By the way, my first diamond was this big
" . " and certainly not well cut!!!!!

@Matthews1127 Definitely! I'm looking at plain milgrain bands to complement the milgrain on my e-ring.. now that I'm getting a longer look at it, I wish the e-ring band was wider so that the details are more prominent, but then it will make the stone look 'smaller'.. so yeah

@justpeachy @SimoneDi Thank you! I'm just glad that it looks great and fits our airtight budget.

@Luce Technically, we have decided on getting married when we first got together, and our families are also aware of our plans, but it's just to make it 'official' that he asks my dad for my hand in marriage, and then I wear the ring and we are officially engaged. Yeah, complicated, I know, but it's an Asian thing =)2

@Jamie Sins,
We are also very traditional. We started planning & saving for our wedding, secretly, but before he proposed, he got my mother’s permission, and my brother’s blessing (my dad passed away when I was 6). He also received the approval of my son, who gave me away at our wedding.
I think a beautiful, engraved & millgrain Band will compliment that ring, well. Victor Canera makes a gorgeous band.

It’s on my wish list. It’s pricey because it’s hand forged, not cast. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it would compliment my ER, too!! ;)2

Ok i almost did a triple axel somersault backflip when i saw the ring! It is GORGEOUS!
I'll definitely bring it up to the BF, as I want both of us to have matching bands.
I was thinking of something along the lines of this, so as not to take the attention away from the details of the e-ring

Ooooh Jamie, I like the milgrain wedding band you that you are considering. The 2mm is a nice size to make the Ering really pop!

Gorgeous ring!!

Great job finding the stone and the setting. Wear it in good health (after you are officially engaged)!! :P2
