I am also in love with your floors!
Thanks!

I really do like them. Although the dust thing is a bother. The floor planks are actually repurposed wood that was further distressed and stained after we bought it. They have so much character which is what I think I love about them. It was almost disaster though. When we ordered flooring we went off of what our contractor measured and never really thought about it. But, as the guy was finishing the kitchen breakfast nook area, he ran out of wood. That was the worst possible thing that could happen...because if repurposed wood there isn''t this endless supply out there that never runs dry. We were facing potentially not getting any more wood to finish the job. Luckily we were able to get more...but knowing what I know now and just the panic that went into facing a total loss, I wouldn''t do it again for a large job where you might need more than you bargained for.

I love the bathroom faucet! I''m going to (hopefully) be redoing my upstairs bath this winter, and I''m looking for inspiration. That would look perfect for the look I''m going for. Is it a Kohler, do you know? I like the convienance of a ''unilever'' for hot/cold, but the older style just looks so much nicer, I think.

I don''t know who make it off the top of my head. I will check tonight. I know I bought it at Lowes...and I think its a Pilsen Phizer or whatever the junk that brand is called.

I figured i''d write here instead of hijacking your other thread, but that''s so great you''re from the area!

the funny thing too, I have those faucets - price phister i think? something like that.

you''ll have to pass along good ideas of things to do around Chicago. I''m always looking for people who know their stuff! You always have great advice so who better to ask?! :)

I actually hate to admit it...since I''m from here...but Chicago has very little to do. I''m sure I''m not "Chicago" enough to know all the cool places and secret spots....but most of Chicago-things-to-do is like if you''ve seen it once, you never need to see it again. It makes for a boring city.

I''m really big on "events"...like, for instance, The Sandwich Fair is coming up early September. Its one weekend, but its so fun for local people who might not otherwise get to see a big, old fashioned state fair. I like visiting little towns that have cool little shops. There is actually a publication called "The Treasure Map" or something like that, that actually goes city by city to show little know Mom & Pop shops with cool finds. Another good thing, since it''s fall, is the apple picking. OMG. If you get the opportunity this fall, take advantage of it. There are some great farms out West of the city and into the Dekalb area that awesome apples and they really turn it into an outting...hay ride and all!!

I love the Mom and Pop shops and the events like you''re saying! I do like the City, even if it''s the touristy things, or the Windella boats - but I''m more of an experience type of person. I went apple picking in wisconsin a few years back, and that was amazing - and the apples lasted FOREVER. we were still eating them a month and a half later.

I''ll have to look up the publication. The big challenge will be getting DH to come (though I don''t think he''d balk at a state fair) we love the Naperville Ribfest! And I want to start going to the farmer''s markets more in the coming years.

See I knew you''d have good advice!

I was born and raised in Naperville...and let me tell you, the ribfest used to be so, so, so much better. People used to come from far and wide, we''re talking Texas, Arizona, Maine...private people who made a mean ol'' BBQ and awesome sides. They would come and compete for best sauce, best ribs, best chicken and so no. Some of the best BBQ I''ve ever had, I had back in the day at Ribfest. Now it''s so commerical. Famous Daves, Portillos, Midway Carnival food and so on...I could to any one of those vendors anytime...it''s sad that it evolved over time the way it did.

Dang, count me as another fan of the granite and dark floors! I''d love to be able to replace our pretend granite laminate with the real thing someday.

thank you very much!

Italia, I just read through the whole post and I am amazed how many of the same places we go to! I have been many times to Mario Triccoci in Naperville AND Oak Brook. Kevin and Jackie also made my ring. My best friend works at the store. We live VERY close, we shop in the same areas...someday I think I will recognize that ring and say hello!

Haha! OMG! Wouldn't that be hysterical!!! If you ever notice it, please say something!!!

Do you like Kevin and Jackie? I think they are wonderful...they have been so gracious to me and my DH over the years, I just love them. Kevin cracks me up!!!

ETA:

Your post totally got me thinking about the last time I was in. I was in the middle of my ring fiasco and had my friends son with me. I dealt with Jackie that day, and I just remember how wonderful she was. He was touching things, and absolutely fascinated with the ring/pendulum thing they had in the center of the store. I was joking about being "nanny for a day" and she was telling me how his mom must trust me so much to take her son out, I don't know if she thought I was a nanny full time or not, but that doesn't really matter. It was just really sweet. The store was busy, and I'm sure Jackie was too...but for her to take the time, as the owner, to chit-chat with me and entertain him...well, it spoke volumes to me about how great they are not only as business professionals, but also as people. Not to mention that I was panicing over my ring...she was calm, and understand and vowed to make it right--which they did.

I don't know why I just thought of this now...but it's just a great story that speaks of them. I'm lucky to have found such a wonderful store. Good people, you know.

My gf remembers your ring from seeing it in for cleaning! She says it is GORGEOUS! Kevin and Jackie are both lovely people. If anyone is looking for a jeweler in Naperville, go to Diamond Gallery! What a small world! Next time you go in ask to meet Sue!

Wally Lamb is coming to Oak Brook! Is that closer to you than Lincolnshire? I think it is. I only know the north shore and surrounding area . . .

Anyway:

BORDERS/Event & Booksigning
1500 16th ST STE D Oak Brook, IL 60523
I'm not sure who is sponsoring the Oak Brook event, I'd call Border's.

Details about his Lincolnshire visit can be found here.

I had heard about this, his new book Hopin and Wishin is being released on the 12th of this month--I have already preordered it on Kindle! I cannot wait! I am booking myself off that night so I can make it to this event!
