I met my DH online, too, Italia!

I wanted to check back in and say that Jennifer Weiner was fabulous! She is so funny, and candid, and I loved hearing her speak. I hope she comes back to the area so you''ll have a chance to hear her speak.
I am so jealous! I would have loved to see her! Did you get her latest book...Best Friends Forever? I just started it last night...if you''re reading it too, we''ll have to bounce back and forth. So far it reminds me of another book called Firefly Lane Girls (or something to nature)...very much so, even the "best friend" being a reporter...

I''m always up for a good Jennifer Wiener book and am looking forward to her new release later this month.

I didn''t know she was coming out with a new book this month! That is SO exciting! I have re-read some of her books since I moved to Philadelphia. I get a small kick out of knowing some of the places she is describing.

Off to Amazon to pre-order!

Well, it seems that the new book is already out! I am a little slow here and didn''t read the whole thread before I responded.

I saw Firefly Lane Girls in the airport recently and snapped a picture of the cover with my phone to remember to get it later. Looked like a relaxing read.

Did Certain Girls make you cry?

Haven- I am so jealous you got to hear her speak!

Italia, we either have crossed paths or we know some of the same people. One of my very good girl friends manages Jeffrey LaMorte, she''s usually at the Orland Park location but rotates between there and Lemont and Frankfort. She was at Texas in Willowbrook prior to that.

I know you don''t love colored stones, but there is a new jeweler in Oakbrook at the newest shopping center across from Champs/PF Changs/etc., it''s Anna Marek Fine Jewelry. I believe her store manager used to work for Van Cleef & Arpels in NYC, I''ve met her and she''s super nice. Sometime when you get a minute or are in the Oakbrook area you should stop in and see what she has, I hear good things but left the area before she opened. I think the owner''s name is Barbara.

You''ve probably posted this before, but if you did I don''t remember...how did you and Mark meet? High school or college sweethearts? Or did you meet through friends? I always love to hear how people met.
Okay...I''m actually not familiar with Jeffery LaMorte. I did, however, work for Mario Tricoci which I''m sure you''ve heard of. That is where I got my start and most of my on-the-floor training.

I am not a huge lover of colored stones, but coming so highly recommended, I will pop in. I know exactly where she is located...there is a huge sporting good store, Weber Grill and another fantastic mexican place in the same plaza.

I actually met Mark online.

I was never the type to ''date'' a lot anyway, and when I starting my career I didn''t have a lot of time to date even if I wanted too. I went on a few not-so-great dates, and realized I was completely wasting my time. However, I''d been pretty messed up due impart to two really bad relationships...so even online dating was just a fluke and I didn''t take it very seriously.

I did the whole eHarmony thing...filled out my forms and it actually came back that I had no matches at all. I was totally ''WTF''...how could I have no matches?! But I pressed on...did another popular site, and Mark was my first match.

We did the phone-date thing...chatted, got our feet wet...and eventually met for coffee...and the rest, as they say, is history!
Yup, definitely heard of Tricoci. Never had any services there, I prefer a smaller, more intimate, indie salon. Used to go to Basili''s in Riverside, loved them until my gal had to leave due to endometriosis.

Maybe I should try online dating; I keep hearing success stories here!

Anna Marek is actually across 22nd from Weber Grill, Dick''s, and Hacienda...in the Promenade. The owner (or so Romana, the manager, told me) didn''t open the store to turn a profit, she is just a lover of fine jewels and the store is her baby.

What are your favorite restaurants? I always loved Vic''s, the Italian place on 22nd (used to be called something else), and Mason Sebika in Naperville.

Monnie--My best friend always talks about Mason Sabika. I have to get out there some day!

Some day??? Why not tonight?! No time like the present, Ms. Haven. You can''t drink milk with your tapas, though...you have to try the white sangria.

Wow! It was so fun to read your description of your house. I could totally imagine it.
Can you describe your wardrobe? Your shopping habits?
How did you come to PS? Have you always loved jewelry?
Have a great day!

What''s your biggest pet peeve?

After Vegas, where is your favorite place to visit?

What kind of music do you like?
My biggest pet peeve...hmmm...I''d have to say it''s people who constantly feel the need to "one up" another person. That''s frusterating.

I love Vegas...but a distant second is Siesta Key Flordia. I love the keys in general, but Siesta is so calm.

My taste in music varies. Sometimes I''m totally into the mellow, indie Anna Nalick style...others, I like PCD and Britney Spears. It varies.

My wardrobe is nothing special. I have a few nice pieces, but for the most part I''m pretty easy. Most of my clothing comes from either Gap, Banana Republic or Old Navy. I have tons of "lounge" wear, jeans, comfy sweaters and casual tee-shirts, ribbed tanks and flip flops. I like being comfortable. If I don''t have any meetings, I will wear capri''s and tee''s to work. I love wide leg trousers coupled with cashmere sweaters. I own a few decent pairs of heels black, chocolate, brown...but again, nothing special--they are usually a higher end brand and I wear them to death. I buy all my cocktail wear at White House Black Market.

I shop once a season. Usually it''s a big occassion. I buy the pieces I need, replace some stuff, and get a few trend items. I don''t get a thrill from shopping...but realize the value in having nice things, so I make an effort. I love having a stocked closet...but hate the work getting there.

I found PS simply because I wanted to look at pretty diamond rings. I already owned my set...wasn''t looking to upgrade. I enjoy diamonds...but thats not the reason I stay on PS...I love the people, the conversation.

Thanks for the questions...keep them coming!

Hmm, I cook a lot...and I don''t really have a favorite place to eat. Although, if we''re talking junk food, I love Portillo''s beef & cheese. Fancy food, I enjoy Rosebuds in Chicago. Chinese food, Joy Yee''s in Evanston. Pub food, Tommy Nevins.

I don''t really "cry" over books. I''m actually not a big crier to begin with, it takes a lot.

I would probably skip Firefly Lane Girls, I''m not saying it wasn''t a good book...but there are many much better books out there. I found myself anticipating things that never happened and being like "why didn''t she take the story there?!"...and the things that did, well, they were really predictable and boring. My version would have been more interesting.

I love Rosebud! I''ve only been to the one on Taylor, isn''t there one out west somewhere as well? Naperville?

I have a couple other getting-to-know-Italia questions:

Is Mark also from Chicago? Do you guys love or hate the commute to work? Are you guys Cubs or Sox fans, and do you love "Da Bears?" LOL

I know you like going to the movies, do you ever see any Broadway shows? Have you seen Wicked yet? I loved taking advantage of all of those things when I lived up there, so much fun.

I also don''t think I''ve ever seen a picture of your set!!! Since this is PS pleeeeaaase post us your rings!

You never went to Naperville Rosebud? It''s on Chicago Ave. And it''s really very good. I first got hooked when my mom owned a store on Chicago Ave (kitty-corner to Rosebuds). I know a lot of their resturants serve different food...some burgers, some pasta. Naperville only served Italian, until recently they underwent renovation and reopened serving burgers.

Mark isn''t from Chicago. He''s from Buffalo NY. He moved out here after graduating college, and has been here ever since (lucky me).

Mark likes the Sox, I prefer the Cubs. Da Beers...well, when they were good... All in all, we''re a "hockey family". Mark, being from Buffalo, grew up playing. I''m not a big sports fan...but I love UFC, and tolerate hockey.

I love Broadway. RENT is my all time favorite. I have seen Wicked, Mark took me on a date to see it. Great show, huh? I have "Defying Gravity" and "Popular" on my iPod. We don''t take advantage of the live theatre like we should.

The commute to work, well, it pays my bills. Mark has a cushy job where he manages to only go into the office twice a week...so he''s thankful. I mean, we live in Chicago--commuting is just part of it. After a while you hardly notice it anymore.

I love Wally Lamb! loved loved She''s Come Undone. I wasn''t as into I know this much is true. Took me a couple tries to finish.

But WHY did I not know about The Hour I First Believed? Off to Amazon I go!
36.gif

Nope, never made it to the Naperville Rosebud, but my ex and ex-inlaws favored it...some of the ex-IL''s live in Oswego. My ex and I went to Rosebud on Taylor a couple times for special occasion dinners/anniversaries and it was fab. I lived in the Oakbrook area (we got married in OB, lived in Brookfield, he grew up in LaGrange), and it was easier for us to go to the city or OB rather than drive out to N''ville. I love sushi restaurants, too, do you? There is one in N''ville that we went to which I absolutely loved, can''t remember the name of it, though.

I do remember that you had a thread about UFC...a lot of my friends are fans but I can''t say that I have gotten into it yet...I''m more of a football/baseball fan myself. Loved going to Bears games and tailgating, but I''m a tried and true Colts fan (love you, Payton Manning!), and my dad made me promise when I moved to Chicago that I would always be a Reds fan like he''d raised me. Although my ex was a diehard Cubs fan, and I was a Reds fan, I saw a ton of Cubs games at Wrigley up close and personal. I have to say that the Cell is a fantastic ballpark now, but both the Cell and Wrigley serve Yves brand veggie dogs so I remain impartial. LOL. What about basketball? No love for the Bulls?

Yes, Wicked is am awesome show. Saw it back in ''07 for my 29th, loved it. Have you read any of Gregory Maguire''s novels? He wrote the book that the musical Wicked is based on...if you liked Wicked and you like to read but haven''t read him you should check him out. Good stuff!

Commuting...I''d say we have differing opinions there...I''ve never met someone who is so nonchalant about dealing with Chicago traffic going to and from work! Good for you, though, you must not experience road rage! I commuted at least a half hour to work every day for several years and never really got used to it...my ex had a company car and worked from home several days a week but still hated the commute...it''s nice that you and Mark are so tolerant!

Oh, thought of another question: do you ever find time to do any volunteer work? I don''t want to seem too invasive here on your thread, so feel free to be vague, but I was involved with several chambers and women''s groups, plus the gym I belonged to in LaGrange, and I did a lot of fundraising for specific cancers, and community Relays For Life as well as the Avon Walk, etc. I''m guessing you''ve been involved with similar, since you''re pursuing a degree (did I read this here or in another thread--can''t remember!) in social work?

It''s a pleasure getting to know you, Italia!

I read This Much I Know Is True twice. The first time, I think I was like 15, it totally went over my head. I wasn''t into it. But the second time, wow. I think if you recommit to the book, and read it start to finish--cover to cover--you''ll gain a new appreciation for it.

Wally Lamb also "edited" two other books...I''ll Fly Away and I Couldn''t Keep It To Myself. These books are different. Lamb apparently teaches English to women who are in prison for various crimes. These books are written by the women in the form of short autobiographies. Because there is a law stating an offender cannot profit from his/her crime, these books aren''t about the acts that landed them in prison...but rather their lives leading up to it. Some are sad, distrubing and heartbreaking...others are happy, light, and good. The assignment was, I assume, to talk about a memory...so some are dark, other''s are about Christmas morning.

These books are powerful reads. Very interesting. You can tell it was a labor of love, not for a huge profit or best seller. I really enjoyed them. I guess, a common thread, Lamb again shines a light on a dark place...he makes you think, feel. These two shouldn''t be overlooked by a Lamb-lover.

Here you go...

Your rings are gorgeous! Mind if I ask who your jeweler is? Doubt if it''s anyone I know, we used one in Oak Lawn.
We went through The Diamon Gallery of Naperville. The owners name is Kevin. He''s been at that store for years and years. I think, if memory serves, it used to be called Zack''s.

Kevin has done all my work--rings and earrings. He''s a gem, no pun intended. After my rings were made--a not-so-small chunk of change--he ended up giving me a deal where, at any time, I can buy anything from him at cost. Although I''ve been tempted, I''m not a huge jewelry lover for the sake of just wanting to "own" something. I do visit him whenever he gets anything extra special in...recently he had a 4ct yellow fancy radiant...it was

...Mark was like "get it if you like it so much, but please, stop drooling on Kevins display cases"...but yet again, if I''m not in the market for something, impulses aren''t my style.

I have imparted my discount onto friends. If someone is getting engaged, or looking for a new piece...we scope it out, and I buy it so they get the discount. It''s a nice perk, truth be told. He''s a good jeweler and a good man.

I''ve never tailgated. Mark has, he loves it...but I''m just not into sports.

I do do some volunteer work. On occasion, I work at a battered womens'' shelter--I go in and teach them about skin care, hair care, and cosmetics. I also volunteer at a large hospital DT Chicago, working with women undergoing chemo--I teach them techniques for filling in eye brows, giving their skin some glow, and address other aliments that effect women during treatment, cosmetically speaking. I have donor''s (including my own company) who give me makeup to create a gift bag full of goodies for these women so they aren''t learning something they can''t do either because they can''t afford it, or can''t get it. But, that''s the extent. I wish I could do more.

From your ering thread:

SanDeigoLady - LOL...lost? No...by now I am used to it...but when I first recieved it, I called off work once or twice to just stare it all day long and keep it safe from conditioner and shampoo!!

Oh, thanks! Yes, I had a lovely anniversary. Mark gave me a Land Rover and we have a tradition that he buys he a LV purse. I cooked dinner, we took it easy. It was so weird having an anniversary during the week...maybe I''m alone in feeling like every one should be on a Saturday. We have a very relaxing and casual night. It was lovely.

Oh, an LV???!!! Any pics to share???
