I am looking for feedback on what to do about my ering. When I worked with a jeweler to design my HW inspired ring, I was basing it off of a setting that they already had in the store. I knew that I wanted an extremely delicate setting, with a very thin halo and shank. The ring that was in the store had a 1.2mm shank and a very thin halo - so I think that makes the diamonds under 1 point (?). The total carat weight of the melee was supposed to be around .41 carats (center stone around 1.6). When I received my ring several months later, I felt like it was bulkier ( with more metal) and it was noticeable that the halo wasn''t quite as delicate. However, I didn''t do anything about it, because for the most part I loved the ring and was excited to have it.

I have had the ring for several months and was recently helping a friend find a ring and found out that my ring has a 1.4mm shank and halo. I know that it''s going to continue to bother me that my ring wasn''t made to the specifications of the store version. In your opinions, do I have any grounds to go back to the jeweler and have it remade? Or do I just have to be okay with the fact that custom rings are never exact? And should I just try to focus on the fact that a thicker shank will probably be more durable in the long run? What would you do in my position?

Here is a pic of the ring

From the other thread..

I am not an expert in HW inspired designs - in fact, CCL really helped me fine tune what to ask for. All I knew was that I wanted delicate and no metal showing and sharp double claw prongs. On to your topic, how long have you had the ring for and have you been wearing it? I think it''s ok if you voiced your concerns to the jeweler right away or within a day or so. If it has been months, it could be tougher.

Custom rings will never be exact. I was disappointed with a job but I voiced my concerns right away and worked with the jeweler.

The truth is .. at 1.4 mm - your ring still sounds very delicate and not bulky. Can you start a new thread (so we don''t thread jack) and add some photos? We can make a call then.

Do you have a close up of the halo?

A 1.4mm shank with melee is a tiny, tiny amount of metal. I would not want to go even thinner - no matter what the arguments, fact is that there needs to be a certain amount of metal for structural integrity. Your shank is tiny and delicate.

Your ring is lovely

Do you like your ring? If you do, then who cares if it is not identical?

I think your shank is already so thin that there *could* be issues with it, so I would personally not go any thinner.

It looks great by the way!

I think what bothers you is the size of the halo and not the shank. The shank is really really thin - I wouldn''t go thinner too. The halo could use smaller diamonds perhaps?

I understand your concerns, but IMHO it''s just gorgeous. Really. To my eye, the size of the melee is perfect and complements your center stone so well.

one fifth of a millimeter...

Your ring is just gorgeous. Enjoy it.

I have a square cushion ruby with 1/2 pointers for the halo and the band. You can do a search for many photos if you want. Judging from mine, your band may be half-pointers, but your halo isn''t. I would be just as happy with larger stones for a diamond, however, since the halo and the stone are the same color.

If you have been wearing the ring for several months with no issue - this means you are happy with it, correct? It sounds like maybe you had a measurement done somewhere and discovered the 0.2mm difference? This is such a tiny, tiny difference - I don''t think it''s even noticeable to the eye, is it? Like someone said - it''s only one fifth of a millimeter!

Thank you for all the replies. I agree that the shank is thin enough, and probably shouldn''t be thinner. CharmyPoo, you''re right, it''s the halo that bothers me (both the size of the stones and metal around the side - seen on the second pic). But when I say that it bothers me, I have put it into perspective, that on the whole I do love everything else about the ring. It''s the perfectionist in me that says, the .2mm difference, while incredibly small is size, is a noticeable difference. Disregarding the actual measurement, the stones are 16% bigger than I was expecting and had asked for. But since I have had the ring for several months, I''ve decided that I should just live with it, and see if it still bothers me down the road.
Thanks again for the input!

Edited, never mind, missed that you decided to accept it as is. good choice, it's lovely.

your ring is very pretty - I''m glad you''ve decided to make peace with it :)

Your ring is gorgeous as it is...do you have a picture of what you thought it was going to look like?

That is exactly what I thought bothered you - the size of the stone and the thicker metal edge. That is why I wanted to see a close up of the halo.

I am just like you - a perfectionist and my eyes catches symmetry really easily - even if a picture frame is 1 mm off .. I can see it ... LOL.

Your ring is lovely and your stone is HUGE! I don''t think there is much you can do now - doesn''t hurt to go back to the jeweler to ask though. They may be really nice and fix it or change!
