Hello!

I''m really new to all of this and I would love some feedback on these two diamonds. I''m leaning towards #2, but wonder if the stats justify an additional $7000 I''d have to pay to put it on my finger.

#1
H & A, GIA cert
2.04 ct
8.23-8.30 x 5.01
color J, IF, no fluor
total depth 60.9%
Table Size 55.1% avg (54.3-55.7), a 1.4 difference
Girdle, thin
Culet, none
Polish, excellent
Symmetry, excellent
HCA 1.1; BrillianceScope Analysis, all high to very high

#2
H & A, GIA Cert
2.08 ct
8.25-8.38 x 5.04
Color G, VS2, no fluor,
total depth 61.1%
Table Size 56.1%
Girdle, medium to slightly thick
Culet, none
Polish, excellent
Symmetry, excellent
HCA 1.3, ex-ex-vg-vg, BrillianceScope Analysis, all high to very high

The variences for the measurements on this stone are very tight, all between 0.1 and 0.2. (No one really talks about this - doesn''t it matter?)

This is my first diamond purchase and it’s via the internet. Am I crazy?!! I don''t think so especially after reading about other positive experiences

I also have an independent appraiser lined up

All opinions are welcome!

Thank you!!

Either way, hard to go wrong buying from GOG

I am not color-sensitive & love the way a J stone looks - question is, have you seen a well-cut J & is it appealing to you? If yes, then you have your answer - why throw away the extra $7k (no small amount)

I guess that's a big part of my indecision, I really don't have a frame of reference as I haven't seen very many diamonds. I live in Tokyo and don't speak the language. I guess I need to haul my butt away from the 'puter and put on my walking shoes check things out, no matter how intimidated I feel.

Kailani, whether the difference in look is worth the $7000 extra to you is one thing, but the value is there. The G color would command a premium in that neighborhood over the J color, even though the clarity is less.

There's a large price jump from a "J" to a "G" color.

Tight variances are good, another sign of precision optical symmetry. That's not to say that a stone with "looser" variances wouldn't be beautiful though.

It's kind of like the difference between a high end BMW and a Corvette. Both great looking cars, but a German would appreciate the precision workmanship of the BMW. If his/her budget was less though, he/she wouldn't mind owning the Corvette.

I think it's pretty smart shopping, especially considering the prices in Tokyo.

If you work it through an independent appraiser, it's pretty tough to find a safer transaction.

Hm... not sure the change between IF and VS2 will show in any way, but there is "something" showing between that G and J grades. If you are shopping online, it begs the question where did those H and I grades go ?

I like the car analogy! DH will totally get it

I think personality over nationality has more weight in car preference, though. And while a Corvette is a kewl car and I admire the power and beauty, given a choice I'm definitely a beemer kinda gal (or an Audi TT cabriolet, heh-heh

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's 0.02!

I have a 2 carat I and I love it, but that said, it's personal preference in the final analysis. Anyway, anything you get from GOG is going to be lovely.
