Is this worth $249?

I bought this form eBay for $249. The diamond has two feathers? and 2 carbon spots. One is pretty big. You can't really see anything from the top, you can see one of the carbon spot from the side somewhat. I know nothing about diamonds, so I'm not sure if I should return it. I had the jeweler test it and it is a real diamond. He said it was a little over a carat at 1.11ct. Should I return it because the seller said it only had one carbon spot?

The price is irrelevant if you don't like it or want it. 250 or 2.50 or 2,500. Doesn't matter. If you don't love it, use the seller's omissions to return it. Keep your 250 and add to it and buy something you love later on instead.

Well it's not for me it's for my MIL. She wanted a diamond and asked me to see if I could find her one for a good deal. So this was the first one i found. She wear reading glasses, so I know she wouldn't see the inclusions. I was just wondering if I should return it or not and find her something different. Idk, maybe I will just hold onto it and find her something else. She wouldn't understand if I tried to explain carbon and feathers to her. Thanks again.

I think it looks like a lovely diamond in your photo and I think that $249 is a steal! Although, of course, there must be differences between the expensive diamonds of over a carat posted here and one which cost $249, I wouldn't be able to tell from the photo. And look up the prices of diamonds of comparable size, i-k color, SI1-I1 - you're still talking well into four figures. I think you got a fab deal and the diamond looks so nice. Wish it was mine, for that price!

I agree with JanesJewels. I unfortunately don't know much either, about how carbon spots should affect the price of a stone, but $250 for a 1+ carat diamond is pretty insane.

I'm actually very interested to see what the diamond experts around here think on this one.

JanesJewels, Thank you. That is interesting, I didn't know that diamonds with visible inclusions sell for that much. Thank you for the links, that gave me a good frame of reference. I just wasn't sure, if I should return it. I am cheap LOL. $250 is a lot for me to spend, but not on my MIL. She is just the greatest. Thank you so much again

Jerini, That was kinda why I wanted to ask. I am also wondering if it will fall apart, if I want to take it out. I just don't know enough about what inclusions or if inclusions make the diamond weaker. Thanks for you comment, Jerini.

Not an expert by any means, but I think that's a steal, especially since the inclusions seem to be strategically placed. Well done!

Find a local trusted jewler to do a proper appraisal and give you a color and clarity estimate and tell you if it is structurally sound, and also if its been clarity enhanced.

That price is so low that its irrelevant -- what matters is that the diamond is structurally safe and pretty and you like it.

As an aside, sellers on ebay rarely if ever accurately describe the things they sell. So the "one carbon spot versus two" issue is really a non-issue.

Deamer, Thanks I will have to do some checking to find a jeweler. The one we had in town retired. I agree with you on the carbon spots, it was the feathers that I wasn't sure about. I will ask around about jewelers on the other side of the highway. Thanks again.
