Is this too much in a wedding band?

Hey there :)

(I usually post on the bridal forum and do not know all the diamond terminology so please excuse my naivete!!)

I have a 1 c tw 3-stone e-ring (center stone is .50 carats and side stones are .25 each) and I''m investigating suitable wedding bands to go with it now.

When FI proposed with this ring, I was literally in tears and you bet they were happy ones :) However, after having the ring for 6 months now, I feel like I''d like something larger. I hate that that is happening to me as I always thought smaller was better and the one I have is really beautiful !!!! Anyhow, I figure I can play on the size issue in the wedding band

So, I''ve fallen in love with 5-stone bands as they go a bit beyond where my ering ends on both sides, and they add serious bling to the overall look. And the 3/4 ctw ones seem to be a compromise between being a simple highlight to my ering at 1/2ctw and being it''s own ering at 1ctw. Is this too much for a wedding band? Literally, I''m a mere 1/4 carat away from having two equally sized rings. But I''m hazed over by the bling factor I think. And I LOVE that I could wear the weddign band alone (it isn''t curved and is just under the size of most erings I suppose) if I wanted to and not feel like it''s teeny tiny.

Anyhow, I thought I''d post pics so I could get your opinions on if it looks like too much!

Here''s my ering alone :) (yes, my fiance played around with photoshop to "colorize" it after I said I loved that effect in photography...it is in actuality white gold)

Here as close as I could get (and it''s still a crappy pic...I''d like to try in natural light later tomorrow)...

and a whole-hand shot so you can see the relative size of this whole set.

I love it!!! To me, it looks like a perfect match!

it looks lovely, but would the diamonds rub against each other?

I think it looks perfect too but just make sure that there would be no problem with rubbing

I echo the others. It''s looks great together, but make sure the diamonds won''t rub one another.

I don't like the look very much because I like for my e-ring to stand out from my w-band. Yes, a finger-full of bling is nice of course but upon first glance, I don't see a difference between the two. For me, I don't want my w-band to compete with my e-ring.

I actually think it looks really nice! Everything matches nicely and isn''t too overwhelming. I''d probably do the same :)

I really like the way it looks. I would go for it

I think it looks great. I perfer the emphasis to be on the wedding band and I think you''ve found a nice balance. Just make sure that they don''t rub or you might have trouble later on.

I like this look, but I agree there could be an issue with rubbing. Another idea would be to wear two smaller bands, one on either side of your e-ring. That might help keep your e-ring the center of attention while still giving it some oomf, and smaller/lower bands might have a better chance of not rubbing.

I think it''s lovely. I love ''whole finger bling''.

Thanks, everyone :) I am actually planning on trying a .5 ctw 5-stone at some point later on to see if I still get the same effect while complimenting my e-ring more because I do sort of see what some of you said in that there may not be enough focus on the ering with the .75 ctw one. I havn''t had access to this size yet in a 5-stone configuration so haven''t seen it on my finger. I did see a .25 ctw one and the first thing I asked was..."do you have this in a 1/2 carat???"

It was just too small

But all they had was a .75 so that''s my reference point lol.

Now, this rubbing issue?? I can gather what it means, but what exactly is the outcome of this over the years? And when is it "Rubbing" and not just "touching"? ANd of course, if it is rubbing, how does one stop that? Is there a way to get the band you want and then do something additional to it to avoid rubbing?

I ask because I thought any 2-band set, asside from the ones that are curved maybe, would touch/rub. And I don''t think I"ve yet seen a curved band on a real hand yet so that must mean that the 2-band-wearing world must either have this issue or have done somethign to remediate it :)

Lady, your comment made me think that since you are recommending 2 smaller bands that it is not that there are other bands on the finger that will indicate a rubbing problem. Perhaps it is the height, for lack of what I''m sure is a better term, of the two and if the jewels touch. Is this correct? Said another way, as long as the diamonds are separate and do not bang against eachother, I''m okay?

I''ll get a pic in a moment because I just looked at the heights of these two and w-band sits perfectly below my e-ring diamonds :) This is good, yes???

Diamonds getting ground/rubbed/knocked by anything other than the prongs holding them could be bad news in the long run. The metal of the two bands will undoubtedly touch, but metal won''t chip the way the diamonds might!

I think they look nice together, but it is a little stone-heavy for my personal tastes. I''d be concerned about the rubbing/touching, too, but can you get it designed so that doesn''t happen?

My (future) engagement ring is a three-stone as well, and I''m considering just getting a plain band, but I don''t intend to wear them together anyway. Will you always wear this set together?

Also, our stones are the same size! Do you mind if I ask your ring size? (I''m trying to form an idea of how my own ring is going to look on my finger!)

Sarah~ I''m a 5.5 and it''s funny because it''s when I look at my own pictures of my own hand and ering that I realize the stones look perfect in size for me. That''s another reason I don''t actually want a larger ering (okay....in the upgrade next year, I would like to travel up the rungs of quality tho by replacing stones). I also want a wedding band that I can reasonably wear alone if the mood strikes and, honestly, the .75 looks like a simple and pretty ering when it''s alone :) I''ll take pics but I''m trying out one of those really great cleaning-recipes I''ve read about right now :)

So, your ering will also be .50/.25/.25? That''s great :) My setting is actually pretty high (I think)....similar to a trelis type design so, again, the stone-heavy wband sort of decreases the distance from finger to top of diamond. But I prefer lower settings anyhow. Does that make any sense?

I think there''s nothing wrong with having a blingy wedding band. However, I''m a little biased! I have a .74 e-ring and a 1.5 carat 5-stone wedding band LOL!!! However, I am a person who still likes her e-ring stone to stick out so I wear them on opposite hands.

The picture you showed looks very lovely and it depends whether you want a blingier look or a more delicate look. I think both looks are great, and if you someday think you are going to upgrade you e-ring, then go for it. Ditto, what others have said about a spacer band, you need to protect the metal work and stones from the girdles of the diamonds.

I''m a 6.25, but I really don''t think I want anything bigger than a 0.5 ct center diamond anyway (Pricescope is probably banishing me right now). And I think your ring looks great! It''s not too big and overpowering. My sidestones are actually tsavorite garnets (see avatar), not diamonds, but they''re at a 1-2 ratio with the center diamond, so it''s pretty much the same look as yours. Mine is a trellis setting, too, but I haven''t actually seen it in person yet. My boyfriend insists I wait for the proposal for the maximum effect.

As for that wedding band, I think it would look great if you ever plan to wear it alone, especially for a "blingier" look. I wouldn''t mind having a little something on a wedding band that I plan to wear alone, but the boyfriend says no more diamonds! Since I plan to wear the plain wedding band only for things where I wouldn''t want to wear the engagement ring, I figure it shouldn''t have stones on it anyway--otherwise I''d just wear the engagement ring. (I hope that makes sense.) So if you love that wedding band, I say go for it!

Both of your rings are lovely. If you want to wear them together, perhaps a spacer between the two. When two girdles rub or bang, then the diamonds chip. That is never a good thing. Or like some others suggested, split them between two hands. That is always a nice look too.

I feel the same exact way. I think a thinner 2-3 mm e-band would look lovely.

I think they look great together. And, if you think you will upgrade your ering size in the future (no matter how far away that may be) a bigger ering may still look good with the upgraded ering. Keeping the wedding ring with an upgrade to me is ideal because of the sentimentality. It''s not always possiblem but with this size of a wedding band, it may work out just fine. Even if you never upgrade, I think they look great together.

I think they look great together, too! I say go for the all bling look!
