Hi all,

Newbie diamond shopper and I'm a little overwhelmed. Been researching for a week or so now so I think I know the basics.

I'm looking for a 1ct round excellent cut. Color H-G and my budget of 7k CAD or 5200 USD looks like brings me to looking at SI2 stones and trying to find eye-clean ones.

Would you say this stone here is eye clean?

Seems inclusions are all white or very tiny specs.

Here is another stone I was looking at but looks like it got away!

Basically want to know if I'm on the right track with these.

Much appreciated.

Hello BlueStreak,

While I cannot comment on specific diamonds due to forum rules I can tell you that, in general, it will be impossible to determine if diamonds are eye-clean using pictures online.

Many vendors, however, utilize gemologists to provide comments to let the customer know if the diamond is eye-clean. Also, be sure to note that the definition of 'eye-clean' can vary from vendor to vendor. At B2C we label a diamond eye-clean if there are, "no inclusions seen in the face-up orientation at a distance of 25cm, under normal lighting, when viewed by a gemologist with 20/20 vision." Either way - the vendor with whom you are dealing will likely be able to provide that information.

Ditto B2C....call JA and ask. It looks to have potential to be eye-clean but I am concerned about the
additional pinpoints, twinning wisp, clouds...etc. It may be cloudy so ask JA about that also. Ask
JA about and idealscope image also.

The stone is deep at 62.7. Looks like you are losing a little bit of size.

I'd rather have either of these stones if eye clean...you could get $100 off with a JA referral code and also ask for PS discount to keep them within budget:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2463460
This would be a really nice option but you need an ideal scope to see about the 36 crown angle (you could ask JA to see if they could provide it): https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2593115

Thank you everyone for the help. I see some recommendations for an I color. Is there not much different between an I and an H in real life?

There is a difference but it's slight, which you wouldn't notice unless it's right next to a colorless stone or face down on a white background. I'm more color tolerant in smaller stones and think an I color at this size would be plenty white, especially if it's well cut!
