Is this rock "big" enough?

Hi everyone,

I posted on here a few days ago and all of your answers were very helpful, and I took a lot of what you said onboard.

I've found a lovely diamond I'm thinking of upgrading to from my 0.64 round.

It is: 0.93c, Ideal cut, H, VVS2

Dimensions are: D1) 5.55 x 5.61 x 3.45 mm. D2) 6.40 x 6.39 x 3.77 mm

My setting is a 1.5mm platinum band with 1/6tcw rounds on the sides

I 've attached a pic of the size difference between this one and my current smaller one - I'm wondering if you all think it's "big" enough? This will likely be the first and last upgrade I ever do, so I want it to be "the one"!!

I don't want it to look huge and gaudy, as I don't ant to be too flashy. However, I do want it to be noticable that it is much bigger than the last!

Do you think the change will be noticeable?

Do you have a size 3 finger?

If it were me I would drop the clarity down to SI1 and see if I could get over a carat.

Yes, it will be noticeable to you. But I can tell you that I went from 1.5 to 2.3 cts and no one in my real life (aside from family members who knew about it) have ever noticed or commented... which suits me fine!

That .93 must not be deep at all due to it having the diameter of a 1 ct., so it is a good buy since it does face up like many one ct stones!

Ditto - drop down in clarity and go up in size.

That is the coolest image - what site is it from?

+1

You should definitely notice a difference between the two. As DS said though, the general populace is probably not going to be suddenly ogling your hand so I probably wouldn't worry that your are going to be gaudy. If you have tiny fingers (size 3 or so) the .93 faces pretty much like a carat in visual face on measurements and ought to be a nice look, or have a look to see if you can get another stone over 6.4mm (and over a carat) if you drop down in clarity a little perhaps.

No, my finger is size 5, not sure why it was set to 3.

I would also like to go up to 1 carat, but all of those stones are either very poor looking si1's or I or J stones which I am wary of as I am quite colour sensitive.

I don't care much about clarity as long as there are no feathers and as long as it is eye clean... Which I can't tell online...

(I have to buy from Bluenile as only they will give me a full credit for my current stone)

If I were to go down to an si1, what should I look for and what should I be wary of?

I understand that feathers are small cracks, so ill avoid those if possible.

There are a few stones that seen to have a lot of twinning wisps, crystals and needles but I don't know how to tell if they would be visible or not.

You might start another thread looking for a stone and your budget (and state up front why you need to stick with BN) and see what comes up. There are some really good super sleuth finders here. It couldn't hurt just to see what else may be there!

What is your budget (credit) at BN? Maybe you could drop to a VS2.

My credit is $2700 AUD, and we were looking for under $6500Aud (preferably closer to $6000)

I think $6k AUD is more like $5500 or so USD. I don't think you are going to gain any size appearance going up to a carat. It will look like the .93 but be a lower color/clarity stone. So I wouldn't bother unless you increase the budget to go over a carat.

Ditto. Unless you can hit the 1.2ct mark I don't think its worth trying to jumpt the 1ct mark value-wise.

You could look for a G VS2 or similar. VVS is spending money sometimes on something you cannot see -- unless you LIKE knowing its a VVS its not a good buy in my opinion.

The size difference will absolutely be noticable though! VERY noticable!

Thank you for the link... I've been looking for this for a month! :appl:

I agree that the size increase will be noticeable to you. :twirl:

I find the diagrams skewed with weird finger proportions.

Yep - sorry about the weird proportions.

Don't know why it was set to size 3 - should have been size 5.

Although I do have weird, long ET-like fingers
