We are looking for a ring for me and I came across this one on Ebay and am wondering if its a good deal? How do I find out if it's real? Has anyone bought off Ebay before? Anything I should look for?
Thanks for the help

I'd look at the reviews for that seller a bit more. Looks like his reviews are a mix of buys and sells.

I wouldn't buy anything without better photos. You can't see the stone or the setting.

Agree. I would ask the seller for more photos before I ebenconsidered. Are you looking for a vintage ring? Or just as big as you budget allows?

Also the appraiser approimates the color/clarity - prob/ done while this stone was set. Don't be surprised if this stone is lower in color and clarity.

Thanks. I requested more photos. (Edit: Just got more photos and they uploaded more and I'm in love...Now what??) And am waiting. It's about my budget and I love the look of them. I can't wait to be wearing one. I have searched this site since last night and found a ton of other ones I'm in love with. Tooooooo many options. hehe
I also researched what this seller sold and it's all random and I don't mind, as long as they have a good rating. My account is somewhat the same.
Hope they are awesome pics.
So how would I know if it's real? Does paypal cover it do you know?
Also would it be bad if I sent an offline message asking if they can sell for less?? Is that normal? I really want this ring. Ahhhhh I don't know what to do. You guys are the greatest..

Hi Jen is it the stone or the setting you're in love with? If it's the type of setting you like I found something a little different, but similar in the sense that it's antique looking. He states that this ring was made by hand anyhow if your interested I asked him how much for the setting alone and he's asking $ 2500.00 which is a reasonable price. Sorry if I added to your confusion lol

Here's the website http://www.billleboeufjewellers.com/category/estate_pieces/rings/ it's the June 14 2011 posting I'm attaching some of the pictures he send me

Skip. There's no excuse for photography like that. Either the seller has no clue what they are doing and there for you can't depend on anything in their listing being accurate, or they are purposely giving you bad photos to hide something. Either way... skip. :-o

Second, the price is ridiculously high for his feedback, the listing quality and the picture quality. He's asking you for retail prices.

Nice find Gypsy, I'd just be worried about the I2 clarity. Look into the return policy if you are interested in this one bc you may not like the inclusions.

Ditto on everything Gypsy said, the seller should try to get better pics especially a macro photo so you can see the facet structure and possible inclusion. Also, it seems overpriced for ebay.

How about something like these, they are the look you are looking for from your originally posted ring:

I can keep going on, and on I'm sure with all the beautiful options out there. Also, are you wanting a true antique ring or just the look of one? Goodoldgold.com has very nice stones that are antique style called August vintage diamonds, they come in round and cushion shapes, they have very good optics. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8239/ http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8494/
They would make a very nice, antique style ring that is new!

Yeah, totally skip that one. Pics are awful awful- which absolutely makes me wonder what the seller doesn't want you to see- and the price is high. If you're trying to sell a multi-thousand dollar item, why not spend a few dollars on a camera that takes closeups? I bought a used one that takes amazing closeups for about $40. No excuse!!

Try JewelsbyEricaGrace.com, or OldWorldDiamonds.com- I'd honestly recommend you go with a reputable retail seller rather than troll ebay for the moment. If you really want to go the ebay route, spend a few weeks at least watching the category. *Then* bid! It's easy to get ripped off, to be honest. When my mom wanted a nice 1 ct+ OEC about a month ago, I recommended her to do the same thing, same reason- you do need to spend a bit of time getting to know what to look for in a listing, and in an ebay seller too.

A few ebay tips: look for an independant appraiser in your area that is familiar with antique jewelry, whom you can work with if you do find something you like. Do not depend on an EGL cert, or the sellers opinion, on a grade- send the piece to the appraiser to find out what it actually is. Do not EVER buy without a no-questions-asked return period. This is absolutely, postively a rule I never break when I personally shop on ebay. No matter how you CYA, you can still find out that the stone is simply not that attractive in person, because there are more not-so-lovely antique cuts out there than there are gorgeous ones. Do not buy without clear pictures, including a face on, not tilted, detail shot of the pattern of the stone. Do not buy from new sellers with no feedback. Do not fall madly in love with something and break all the above rules just because you really really want it! There will *always* be another awesome piece come along, that you love just as much.

I agree on skipping...seller usually sells stuff under $10. Seems odd to be selling this ring!
