Is this JA setting width too thin?

Hello,

I know the topic of setting width has been discussed at length in several threads and I have read them all, but I was wondering if anyone could comment on this particular setting:

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engagement-rings/james-allen-exclusive/platinum-double-bevel-knife-edge-engagement-ring-item-7870

Width is listed at 1.8 mm. Is it too thin, appearance-wise or durability for this specific setting?

There is no review for this particular setting which according to a JA rep is because it's relatively new. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

I forgot to mention that the diamond I chose is 1.30 cts. Thank you!

1.8 should be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance. My fiancee wants me to pick the setting and I am really concerned that she may not like it despite the fact that she said she will love whatever I ended up choosing :)

Is it a good idea to just buy the diamond online and have it set locally?

Thank you!

I have a 1.5 carat on a 1.8mm shank.

If your fiancee wants you to pick, you should make an attempt to pick. :) I purchased a diamond + setting from JA before and then decided that I wanted to return the setting and have the stone set locally. JA was really good to work with. They allowed me to have the diamond unset locally and just return the setting. If your fiancee doesn't like what you picked out, you can always shop with her and have your jeweler unset the stone and send just the setting back to JA. Call JA before you unset the stone first though, because sometimes they may want you to send the finished ring back so they can take the diamond out themselves.

There are advantages of getting the diamond set locally too. It's easier to resize (no shipping the ring back and forth) and your jeweler will often polish and clean the ring for free. If you do decide to go this route, make sure you have insurance on the stone before your local jeweler takes possession. Most jewelers won't cover damages to stones that aren't purchased from them. Check to see if your jeweler has insurance first, and if they don't, I recommend getting a standalone jewelry policy (like one through Jeweler's Mutual).

Thanks sortmon! I appreciate the fact that she values my input but she's the one who will be wearing it. Sometimes I wished she would just tell me which one she likes :)

I do like JA's 60-day return policy but it's too bad they don't extend the free return shipping to Canadians.
