And the results:

Atlas said the stone was horribly set, the prongs are too big, etc. THe damage to the milgrain/pve cannot be repaired and the man should never have tried to size the ring in the first place--the setting is just too delicate for that. (it''s fine with me that its delicate, I just know I can''t wear it to do anything rough)

He said ''a less particular'' couple would still buy the setting and harzin would probably take it back and re-sell it to someone else and supply us with a new setting. But we''re not to let them try to set the stone, period.
He also said he''s never had anyone with problems from Harzin before.

So we''re probably going to call up Richard at Cherrypicked and ask him if he will set it for us, as he offered originally...hopefully this will all be resolved soon.

ETA: The manager says he will talk to the jeweler, and if their jeweler says he cannot fix it then he will order us a new setting. If we let him try to fix it, and they screw it up again, we get a new setting. (we''ll have the stone unset first)
''A less particular couple''????????What the crap

I noticed on another thread that you said that you just got back from dealing with this some more. Has there been any progress?

Here is what happened today:

we went back to the jeweler and, amazingly, they did manage to fix almost all of the damage to where it is acceptable to me. they stated that the manufactuer only made the rings in a size 6, and that to their knowledge it would not be possible to resize it without any damage whatsoever (from what I understand Atlas was sort of in line with this idea as well). I still feel like we should have been warned, and I spent about 10 mins giving the manager a nice piece of my mind. I don't want to change the setting since FI attaches so much sentimental value to it, so we decided to stay with it (he offered us a new one in a differeht style if we wanted)

He finally said "well what do you want???" And I said "An apology!" And he said "OK, I apologize." After that, oddly enough, things got a lot more cordial. He admitted that setting the stone was above their skill level, and told me that I should take it to New York and find someone skilled enough to set it. The sigh of relief when we said we were taking it to cherrypicked in new york was almost comic.

I am still really unhappy with the way that they handled this; however I think I have figured out that the level of quality I want is just above what they can deliver--and frankly, above most of what I've seen on Jeweler's Row.

ETA: Blenheim, I love your avatar.

They couldn''t have told you about not sizing it BEFORE they did it!!!! It''s sad that they had to be prodded into apologizing.

I hope you can keep your lovely setting. He put so much effort into finding it. I''m so sorry this experiance is so bad for you.

EXACTLY. Thanks, it''s nice to feel like my standards aren''t totallly perfectionist!

WOW rainbowtrout, I don''t know how I missed this entire thread!!! I''ve been busy at work but I thought I was about caught up by now! Anyway, I am SOOOOOOOOOO sorry you had to go through such a miserable and entirely preventable experience, and SOOOOOOOO relieved that the thread ends with a satisfactory (if not perfect) conclusion! I cannot believe how careless they were with your ring, and what bad customer service they had, but I am so glad you finally got an apology and your setting seems to be repaired and you''re having someone QUALIFIED set your stone. Do you know when cherrypicked and get it done? You deserve to have your gorgeous ring back on your finger (properly set, unscratched, uncrushed, and the right size) immediately!!!! Best of luck!!!!!
