Hi Everyone,

I am hoping you can help me because James Allen is telling me that their gemologist says the diamond here is eye clean - is that likely to be true or is it a "generous assessment" by someone trying to sell me something?

here is the idealscope image

and I have attached the report for the diamond which shows loads of little crystals and one "feather"

The truth is neither myself or my wife-to-be care about "faults" in the diamond that cannot be seen with the naked eye but we do care if they can be seen

Please help in any way you can... thank you!

Please hold it a little closer to the screen, I can not see it so well...

Sorry, I could not help myself.

Probably from the top it is. Of course this is hard to know for sure, but the inclusions look to be small crystals scattered throughout the stone. If they are clear rather than black it could well be eye clean from the top, which is how diamonds are graded. It is quite likely that some may show from the side, but again that will depend on the nature of the crystals.

Just be sure what kind of inspect and return period you have, then if you do not like it you are only out the shipping.

A) We can't tell you anything about eyeclean from the report, but this is an SI2 - expect to see something in some lights from some angles.

B) Why would JA lie to you? If they do and you don't like the stone you'll just send it back - and probably post here, too, afterall.

C) Determine what eyeclean means to YOU. W/ 20/20 vision, from face-up, from any angle, from 6" or 10" or arm's length? Then ask them to tell you if the stone meets YOUR requirements.

If JA said it was eye clean, I would trust them. That''s just me though..

They helped me with a diamond- if they sat it''s eye clean I would also trust them.

Ditto all of this.

With SI2s I really think you need to accept that you can see inclusions somehow and some way in some lighting if you look for them

. There are a few very rare SI2s that are well and truly eye clean. Maybe this is one, only way to know is to see it yourself.

I used to be really bothered by the inclusions in my diamond because I could find them easily if I went looking for them. They bug me a lot less now after 6 months.

Have you thought of dropping color and going up in clarity? You can probably get an SI1 for your money if you drop to an F, which is still BLAZING white.

2x- drop color and get better clarity- you CAN really tell clarity but color- not really.. I personally would be bother by an SI2 stone- I would be able to see the inclusions.

Again to quote my friend Iro. Color and clarity are rarity issues and affect greatly the price. Cutting is a quality issue and affects greatly the beauty.
