Is this diamond band too overwhelming

So, I'm getting married Oct 1st this year. I've been searching for 8 months for a wedding band to go with my vintage engagement ring. I have a few candidates but non that were love at first sight and all are from online shops, so there's a chance I might not like them.

I want an 8 stone diamond band (I have 8 babies) but was thinking of saving for that after we get married because 1. We're having a super small budget wedding 2. My fiancé is on a leave from work because our youngest 3mths old had open heart surgery (she doing very well) and he's helping me with the other kids so I can tend to her without added stress.

So all in all my plan was to find an antique/vintage simple, thin band and add a diamond band later.

But today I stopped in at the pawn shop and they gave a 12 stone 1ctw Sl2 band for $800 CAD. That's the regular posted price, so realistically I can probably get closer to $600.

I think it's too overwhelming though. It sits quite high in comparison to my dainty e ring and for the 8 stone I wanted, I was thinking smaller... 0.05ct - 0.08ct each. Between 40-60pt ctw and either shared double prongs with a U shaped gallery or low bezel set with millgrain.

And for a refrence... here's something similar to what I'm looking for at my local jewelry shop. 9 stone 0.50ctw. On sale but that doesn't apply to me because my fingers are too big so they'd have to order it in. I'm definitely not ordering from that sales associate but could probably get the sale price from the store manager. But then I'm paying triple what I wanted for this year and not getting the sentimental-personal 8 stone that represents my family (and I'm not having another baby to make it 9!!!) And I'm paying retail for mass produced jewelry which doesn't sit well with me.

And here's a cute baguette band I like... but it's listed for over $2300...20250616_135636.jpg20250616_135253.jpg

1ctw 12 stone is approx 0.08ct a stone, like your original idea for the 8 stone ring you wanted. While I think the stone size is nice, it doesn’t meet your needs for symbolism and the setting isn’t the style you like; plus it seems like it would rub into your engagement ring and might damage it.

Have you considered perhaps getting a plain (perhaps engraved) wedding band, and then once you have the funds ordering an 8 stone band the way you like it? And wearing all 3 rings together. This solves a bunch of problems, including having the wedding band serve as a sort of “spacer” which will protect both the diamond rings. It will scratch up the band on the sides, but it can always be polished again, and it’ll protect all the diamonds. Plus, having metal between the rings helps draw attention to each diamond.

I agree with @AllAboardTheBlingTrain ... I would probably look for an antique engraved band to use as a separator band/wedding band.

First, you will need a separator/spacer ring to prevent the diamonds from eating into your ering setting.

Secondly, it will give you more time to search for the 8 stone you really want. 8 stones are difficult to find, and you may have to
have it made, because rings are usually made in odd numbers (5/7/9 stones).

Get the 8 stone later (1 year anniversary, maybe?). If you don't want to wear a separator ring, you will need the 8 stone to be bezel
set (like you mentioned) or bead set with side rails. Just something to keep in mind while you're shopping!

Agree with the others. You will want a pain band to wear especially when working with the kids, and a plan band can be resized so it is more practical for long term for a sentimental piece. I say this as someone who got a diamond wb and sold it many moons ago bc it didn’t fit. I have a plain band now but it’s not eh one I married with!

Your ring would look gorgeous with a 2mm 18k antique gold band IMO. Then get the diamond one for an anniversary.

I'm pretty sure you've said that to me before about the antique gold band! I've sourced a couple and will definitely be adding them to the mix!!!

I just saw this over on SGBTP thread. I don't know if this would work but it has rails that would offer a bit more protection.

Otherwise, I echo the sentiments of a nice gold band, either engraved or plain.

This is so incredibly beautiful! I've been stalking it since you shared it. I think the rise is too tall for me but other than that, it's everything I've wanted...I had just never seen it all together before!
