What do you Guys,(and Gals)think?
Just started looking for a diamond for the first time and very confused by so much information on the net.
This site seems very good for info.

thanks!!!

OH MY- is that a 66 depth for a round? Never seen that before...others will give more info...

Dontnomuch, welcome to the forum.

This stone is very deep cut: depth =66.7% and diameter about 6.11mm. It will look much smaller than a well cut 1 ct diamond which is about 6.5mm in diameter.

How big a diamond looks depends on it's diameter, and not necessarily it's carat wieght. In this case the diamond cutter was able to make a 1 carat stone with the same diamter as a well cut 0.85 carat stone by hiding that extra 0.2 carats in a very deep stone. By doing this, the cutter's able to make a lot more money, because once you go over 1.0 carats, there's a large price jump. Unfortunately for the consumer, the stone would look exactly the same size as a much smaller well cut stone, and would look very dull in comparison due to the poor cut. So, in effect you're paying a lot more than you would for a 0.85 carat stone, which is really what you're getting, and one that will look dead, as well. I would definitely pass on this stone. If you ever saw it next to a more ideal cut stone, the difference would be painfully obvious. Also, if you were only able to look at it in jewelery store lighting, it can be very deceiving. The light is so strong that even the most poorly cut diamonds still sparkle. once you got it home, I'm sure there would be a huge difference.

Run aways as fast as you can! This stone has the diameter and look of a well cut 0.80ct stone... Basically it has a lot of 'fat' hidden at the bottom, and you are paying for it, even though you can't see it! As others have noted, a nicely cut 1ct should measure 6.4-6.5mm (with 59-62% depth), compared to the 6.11mm diameter (with almost 67% depth).

dontknowmuch,
Wow !!! with the depth at 66.7%, that's deeper than the grand cayon. i would pass on this stone. i am one of those crazy guys that got tired of looking at my wife's poorly cut stone. so i finally called wink, and he contacted paul of infinity diamond who recut it into a h&a for me. it started at 1.47 ct. and after the recut, it weighs 1.15 ct. couple of days ago, i got an e-mail from wink,he said AGS graded the stone 0 cut. i would sacrafice the size for a well cut stone any day. what good is size, when it doesn't sparkle?

Hi, thanks for the replies.
I have found some nice diamonds in this range on the net, but I am a little anxious about spending this much money on a diamond I havn't seen. I think I will give it a try.
Many of you have, with great results.

Thank you all again!!
