Hello,

I'm looking to buy a pre-loved ring with a cushion center stone and I'm trying to see if the stone is worth buying at all. I don't know anything about cushion cut but wanted to make an informed purchase. I don't have a good picture of the diamond but could meet up with the seller and check it out in person.

Well, IMO, its not worth buying. This is all personal preference but I prefer stones that have clearly defined facets under the table. This stone
(from the not so good pictures) looks like a crushed ice cushion. If you like that look then its probably worth seeing in person.

Here are cushions with a look that I prefer.

I think* you are looking at something more like this

I say pass... you can do much better.

This looks closer to rose cuts & to beads than anything.

@tyty333 Thanks so much for the explanation. What parameters should I put in when searching for a cushion with clear defined facets under the table?

Unfortunately, there are no parameters (numbers) that you can use for fancy cut stones like cushions (pears, ovals, marquise etc). You have to
look and find stones that have well-defined facets that turn on/off (going white/dark as the stone moves).

Pricescopers can help you find a nice stone if you give a budget and requested size/color/clarity specs.

For budget-friendly cushions, we usually go down to an H (sometimes "I" though) and eye-clean SI1. If you are color sensitive I would stay at G
and above. All depends on budget and size wanted.
