So I know nothing about black jade but I fell in love with the setting. I think the price is steep at 1000 but there may be wiggle room? Anyhow. Thoughts? It’s 18 k gold. Single cuts.403ECDDF-E8BA-4E49-8FE6-06C96C3071B1.jpeg

Is it definitely black jade and not onyx or another stone?

Are the diamonds nice color and eye-clean?

Yes the diamonds are gorgeous. The seller claims it’s black jade. I wouldn’t even know how to confirm that tho since I didn’t know much about black jade. Is black jade valuable?

If the diamonds are high quality and you love the ring, then I do think $1K is reasonable even if just for the setting.

I believe black jade is more expensive than onyx, but based on the ring design I guess I would have expected the stone to be onyx rather than black jade...

The most temperature sensitive area of the body is between the base of the nose and the upper lip. Place the stone touching there If it is jade it will be cool and stay cool to the touch. If not it will begin to warm up. I usually count to thirty. This is a good field test you can try on a piece of jade.

Personally, I believe you are paying for the setting rather than the jade.

DK :))

Stunning ring! I’m no expert but I’m inclined to say onyx, that’s just a guess but whatever it is, it’s fabulous!

Stopped by the shop today and this ring is still available. They are gonna shut their doors forever in one month but only negotiated to 800 out the door. I didn’t the black stone doesn’t scream gemstone and 4 diamonds look like they were replaced by darker diamonds. This is not to say that I will not drop by again and offer less. Lol.

I love it but if it’s not an instant yes, would that make it a no? I am trying to behave more this way myself.

Hmmm I say if it’s not a screaming yes then maybe there is something else there you would enjoy more and could get for a good price since the store is closing.

Oh. It is screaming at me! Especially bc I don’t have a black cocktail ring to wear on evenings out!!! But the bargain hunter in me keeps thinking I should only pay 600 tops.

I love this ring, the setting is really beautiful!!

The price of $1,000 is reasonable. A simple black Jade Ring with the size you're buying might range in the $500 to $600 range. Add the very nice setting with what appears to be diamonds and you're in the right price range. As you said, though, there's always wiggle room.

Wow! Guess I should look at other replies before responding... $800 is a great price.

Yes, because the setting alone would cost over $1000 to replicate. The stone is a bonus.

Ok. So when I went back for it was sold. And today I found it at one of my jewelers who is located in an antique mall. Turns out he bought it and replaced the black onyx—bc it was not jade! With an opal. And here she is and now she is 1500. Is it destiny??? Lol

So this is a African “umba” which I have no idea what it is. Not certified.

Then an aquamarine 3 stone. Diamonds are a bit too warm and included but I love it. Both the opal and aqua are same price. The umba is 3000.

Umba seems to be a sapphire from the Umba River area in Tanazania / Kenya border.

I vote Umba first.
Opal second.

All fabulous can’t go wrong.

The umba reads really brown to me and I wonder how it might shift in different lighting.

For that reason (and because I think the setting is amazing) I would go with the opal ring. That ring is like POW! It’s a great statement ring.

Yes!!!
