Is this band bead set?

Hello again….
Quick question…is my 7 stone band bead set? I’ve never heard that term before now when I was just reading about diamond bands. But it kind of looks like one.

Would anyone mind taking a look at these pictures and let me know what you think? If it is bead set…do I need to wear a spacer band? I really prefer not. I’ve been reading that you don’t need to wear a spacer with bead set bands. 0B9F1254-7E64-4359-A32B-E8C97051B268.jpeg

Thanks for any of your expert replies.

I'm not an expert, so take it with a grain of salt, but as far as I can see the prongs are a bit prominent and they protect the diamonds ' girdles: anyway I would stack with a thin (1 mm?) plain band just to be sure not to damage both the seven stone band and the engagement ring.

I would call that a shared prong, sometimes referred to as kissing prong if the prong points almost meet. It looks like the prongs are meeting with the basket metal on your e-ring which will cut down on wear from rubbing stone directly on metal. This is a good thing. You can wear a spacer if you want, but it's not really necessary. You're good to go.
You should always check periodically(every few months) to see if there is wear to your e-ring basket/prongs and eternity just as a general rule of maintenance.

That’s a shared prong band, I’d say. I had am eternity band set very much like this and the girdles of the stones in the band did eat into the metal of my ring a bit after several years…but you’ve got some space from the prongs, which should help reduce that risk.

I am not an expert, however, I believe each diamond in your band is prong set individually with its own set of prongs; and not shared prongs.

DK :))

Thanks so much everyone!! I think I’ll just play it safe and wear a spacer.

For what it's worth - that's a fishtail setting. It's not shared prong - each diamond has 4 prongs. It's also not bead set - which is, essentially, the same as pave.

If you look at it in profile, you'll see that each pair of prongs for 2 adjoining diamonds comes from the one spot in the band, making what looks like a splayed fishtail. Thus the name.

Bead set bands tend to have an edge on them which helps hold them off other rings. They also tend to be smaller pave
type stones (but not necessarily). Yours is not a bead set.

A good example

One with bigger stones

Beautiful 7-stone! It looks full of sparkles! I’m definitely not an expert, but I did want to better understand the meaning of “bead-set” when I brought an Edwardian OEC bracelet described as “bead-set” into my life, and I found this description of the setting technique quite elucidating: https://www.ganoksin.com/article/basic-bead-setting-techniques/

And in case it is helpful for comparison, this is what I believe is called bead-set, on the bangle (please correct me if I am wrong, PSers!):A4B0137D-282A-4907-A95E-0A90A4EA449D.jpeg
