... and what does this say about America?
... that a presidential candidate expects to gain more votes than he loses by being anti-semitic? :nono:

It's 1930s Germany all over again.
History is repeating. :((

When I saw it, I just saw a star that was for emphasis. Nothing more. Sometimes I think dems are just nit picking. I did not see the star of David.

It originated from a pretty racist online community, so, originally? Very likely. From Donald? Probably not, though it's very obvious he puts little thought into what he says or tweets. Monday, it'll be something else.

Remember when Joe Biden was considered a gaffe-master? Obama and "57 states?" Oh, Donald.

If you're Jewish, that is the only thing you see. How come they didn't put a cross instead?

Exactly. It was a pretty direct message to those who would recognize it.

I sat here staring at your comment and wrote about 9 different snarky replies, but simply - no. Many people DO see the Star of David here, and DO take offense to the implication made, and it's not up to YOU to say just because you don't find something offensive that it isn't offensive. It's a sensitive symbol in history and to flippantly say "Oh Dems are looking to be offended" is ridiculously ignorant.

Thank you, Monarch. I usually really think about what I am going to say What I write On this site, because sometimes people hide behind their computers and write not-so-nice comments. But for something like this, I have to comment. Being Jewish isn't always easy. I have blonde hair and blue eyes, so people don't ever assume I'm Jewish, and when I tell them, they are pretty shocked
I live in Huntington Beach, CA. We have a lot of nomadic skinheads and/or Arian white brothers. I do not wear my beautiful Jewish star necklace, because my husband is worried something will happen. He's not really happy that I wear all the jewelry I do, but that is beside the point. Lol. I've worn my pendant to work a few times, but there are a lot of Jewish people there.
His very sad that I can't display my religion on my heart.

Liaer. So sorry. I couldn't remember the rest of your code name. So sorry!
Good for you. You posted this when I was writing my post. So I'm posting again. And also glad you held back on snarky comments, but in this situation, I think it would have been warranted.
Happy 4th!

To me, a typical star has 5 points, so, yes, I think Trump knew exactly what he was doing (being offensive, as usual...). I am not jewish and I think that it looked like the Star of David.

If it was a generic star, there would have been no reason to change the shape. I think it speaks for itself.

As a Jewish person, 100% YES its anti-semitic. I There is anti-semitism in this country, very much its unfortunately alive and my kids and I have experienced it.

How Trump can be the nominee is very scary to me and I shudder to think what will happen if he is elected. I have never had such fear about an election.

I'm not Jewish, and I'm slow on the uptake on stuff like that but... yeah, that one is pretty blatant. And I TOTALLY agree with whomever said, "If it was not a problem, why change it to a circle."

As for the "Dems are nitpicking".... really? It's a 6 point star in the exact orientation of the Star of David. Yeah, we'll all going out on a limb seeing it as a Judaic symbol. It's like someone putting up an inverted cross and people saying "no, it's not a satanic or anti Christian symbol, it's just two sticks." Uh huh. (Yes, I know the inverted cross is originally a Christian symbol of St. Peter but the meaning has evolved).

These are non-Judiac 6 point stars.

If it had been one of these (note the orientation of the first and the dimensions of the second), I would agree with the nit picking comment.

Hell yeah this is Anti-Semitic. Not a question in my mind and it is disappointing to read one of the responses here. I am going to believe it comes down to ignorance on her part and not hate though.

Anti-semitism is alive and well in this country and all over the world. I just never thought a Presidential candidate in this time and place would be so blatant about it. Just goes to show you what a moron he is. A smart person would have kept it to himself.

And fyi for anyone interested.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/02/politics/donald-trump-tweet-graphic-star-hillary-clinton/

"A Star of David, a pile of cash, and suggestions of corruption. Donald Trump again plays to the white supremacists," said Erick Erickson, a leading anti-Trump conservative.

Liberal commentator Alan Colmes, who is Jewish, called it a "disgusting" tweet that "appeals to anti-Semites."

Trump has also been slow to disavow anti-Semitic white supremacists who have expressed staunch support for his candidacy.
Trump initially refused to disavow the support of David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard who continues to promulgate Jewish conspiracy theories, when pressed repeatedly about Duke's support in an interview by CNN's Jake Tapper.

Trump has also previously retweeted tweets from apparent neo-Nazi supporters, including one from the account "@WhiteGenocideTM," which also tweeted numerous quotes from Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

http://www.politicususa.com/2016/07/03/trumps-star-david-anti-semitic-attack-clinton-neo-nazis.html

The source of Donald Trump's anti-semitic Star of David meme attack on Hillary Clinton has been revealed to be a neo-Nazi message board.

The Trump campaign is pulling material off of white supremacist message boards for their own use. They are having their candidate tweeted racist and bigoted material from white supremacist forums.

The media can no longer deny Trump’s appeals to bigotry and racism. The KKK love Trump and believe that he is going to lead them back to prominence. What Trump is tapping into goes beyond the politics of a presidential campaign. Donald Trump is openly promoting bigotry and racism as a part of his presidential platform.

Anyone who supports Trump is supporting bigotry and racism.

And for those of you who feel this doesn't concern you never forget the great words of Martin Niemöller.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/14/opinion/the-dangers-of-indifference.html?_r=0

Re “A refugee lesson for Europe” (Oct. 9): Roger Cohen brings us a necessary reminder about the refugee crisis. The word “Indifference” engraved at the entrance to Milan’s Holocaust memorial reinforces the concept that the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s apathy. Indifference makes the victims invisible. Nobody cared when Jews were hauled through the elegant avenues of Milan to the central railway station for deportation to the concentration camps starting in 1943.

Now fast-forward to today, and there is some improvement through the creation of a shelter with beds, food and clothing. I reflect on Pope Francis’ recent message of reaching out to the downtrodden during his visit to the United States. But the echoes of indifference will grow louder each day that society looks the other way. The consequences are deadly.

Steven A. Ludsin East Hampton, N.Y.

Elie Wiesel.
We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.

Like others, at first I just saw a star, for emphasis, and I didn't connect the dots between that and the pile of money. Like Gypsy, I'm not Jewish and can be slow on the uptake if the anti-Semitic message has any subtlety at all. However, as soon as the message was explained in this thread, I saw it. As another poster said, the star of David is a very sensitive symbol in history and you have to be very careful. We know, as well, that the star was changed to a circle, and this makes the message seem more suspicious, too. On balance, I have to say that I find it very anti-Semitic, especially when you factor in the money reference, too.

A Jewish friend of mine saw anti-Semitism in the Harry Potter movies, something about the portrayal of the bankers at gringotts being the way Shakespeare described Jewish people, and that it wasn't a coincidence that these characters were also the money-handlers - another Shakespeare stereotype about Jewish people, she said. I can't quite remember her line of reasoning, as the conversation was a while ago, but she felt amazed that no one else noticed that these bankers were portrayed in what she thought was a pretty anti-Semitic way. Did anyone else feel the same? I'm just curious.

ETA: I agree that if you support Trump, you're supporting racism, homophobia, sexism, and all manner of prejudice and bigotry. I suspect the guy basically doesn't like anyone who isn't a white, privileged, straight male. Yes, trekkie, he really is the potential nominee, and there are 300 million people here. Are you sure you want to try and move here??

Missy, excellent contributions.

Gypsy, one of those is a cookie cutter likely intended for use during Chanukah, etc. I don't understand your point about orientation. The other is an EIGHT point star, not even close to 6 points.

I just have to sit here and wonder at the irony of all these people being on a board about diamonds and jewelry, poring over online jewelry stores daily, going to brick & mortar stores, and never really noticing Star of David pendants and other Judaica jewelry? I suppose when all you are looking for is your own religion's symbol you might not notice that there are others. We do tend to overlook that there are different things around us that aren't encompassed by our own experiences. Not even gonna mention the fact that many of the people who cut and make a business of trading your precious gems and diamonds are those very people for whom this symbol has meaning.

As far as the "nit picking" comment: you know, I really cannot abide that attitude. I once brought up in a thread here that the word "ghetto" was derived from "borghetto" which was where Jews were interned in Italy at one time. I was told I was reading too much into it, I believe. Really? Would you say "omg, that's SO concentration camp!"? No, you wouldn't. Yet somehow it is acceptable that people have forgotten after not a very long time that ghetto isn't just a place where people don't have any money and live in subsidized housing. Liaerfb's response was spot on--how dare someone insinuate that because they themselves failed to recognize a symbol it means nothing and others are just looking to start trouble? That is nonsense. The truth of the matter is that people WANT to forget. They don't want to be bothered by something that happened years ago, but not to them, that still hurts for millions of people because another group killed a ton of them off. "Well, what do they WANT us to do?" people have actually said this to me before. They want you to acknowledge that it happened, they want you to say you'll never forget, and that you will stand up for and do everything in YOUR power to make sure it doesn't. Not your willful ignorance and your lackadaisacal attitude of "wasn't there for it, can't we all just move on."

Gem Queen, you're welcome. My husband has blue eyes and light hair and people are shocked when they find out he is Jewish as well. Like, "oh my stereotype was COMPLETELY off, silly me!" It is a sad thing indeed that you have to pick and choose when you can wear your necklace. Pity isn't it that the hate of others has contributed to yet others' ignorance by keeping people in hiding still after all these years.

Lastly, Donald Trump is a huge, festering pimple on the face of humanity.

Monarch! Holy cow!! You rock!
It's funny. My husband isn't jewish, but very protective of me. We had "friends" come over to our house, our house.". They, because they were "Born again Christians," felt that they needed to tell me that I was going to hell because I'm Jewish.
Now mind you, he was an alcoholic and into ****. She had her own problems . I just couldn't believe it. I just said I don't need to be reborn because I always do the right thing. I help people and try to be respectful or everyone. You think just Santa Clause is the only one watching you.... And he is just mythical. How come people don't say to their kids, "you better be nice or good because God is watching you"!
My husband wanted to kick them out of the house. I Just said they are leaving soon. He now kind of hates them and they are not welcome in our house. We do nothing with them now.
If you live in l.A, or around it, go to the Simon Wiesenthal museum on a Sunday and listen to one of the Holocaust victimes. It will change your life

GQ, I'd love to have a discussion with you about some of the things in your latest post, but we'd be in violation of PS policy about discussing religion. Sorry! I will say that I've been told all my life I'm going to hell by one person or another for all kinds of reasons. Maybe it's just a saying, though. I'd probably be nit picking if I thought any further into what it meant to them to say that. ;))

I think anyone can see anything they want in anything everywhere. It looked like spilt milk. That's a book about looking at the clouds and seeing different things. For all we know someone said ooooo hey better change that in case someone thinks it's supposed to mean this. Do we know? Nope. And the way I see it we will never get to the point where we can look at anything and NOT get upset. I get tired of this whole walking on eggshells lest we offend someone in some way shape or form bc that means we are the scum of the earth and should be ridiculed forever and trash talked until the cows come home in our righteous indignation. I really doubt there is hidden subliminal messages in everything we see and hear.

Packrat, I'm sorry but I am confused by your post above. Care to explain? Are you saying the original tweet is not anti semitic? I would love to understand what you are saying. Thanks.
