I've been diligently reading the boards trying to educate myself.

I came across a picture of an OEC with a dark spot, but I don't know if this is just bad photography or it is a dark inclusion.

Would the experts care to chime in and offer their opinions? It's the spot the red line is pointing to in the stone. Sorry about the quality of the photo, I didn't take it.

Thank you!

Could be anything - inclusion, bad photo of a great stone, even something dark on top of the stone like lint or dirt. The photo is just too poor to say anything.

I would only be speculating Judes, it could be anything as Yssie says....Like a blob of dirt etc or an inclusion....

Grrr...my love of antique diamonds is making me a little batty :).

I found this seller, but this is the best picture he was able to offer me and that little dot is making me nervous. I''ve seen some fabulous stones in person and I know what they should look like.

Do you think it would be possible for me, if the seller agrees, to have the ring sent to a reputable appraiser (i.e. David Atlas), have them unmount the diamond, appraise it, BEFORE committing to a purchase?

Some will, but I''d guess you may have more luck if you actually purchase the stone on the condition that you will return it if it doesn''t come back with an acceptable appraisal from some pre-agreed upon independent appraiser?
