My search for the "perfect" antique diamond has been going on for a few weeks here and my BF and I have looked at a lot of stones, in person, in pictures.

I came across this antique cushion and they used the name of a PS recommended appraiser as the person who graded the stone as K, SI2. I''ve attached the picture as a reference. The dot on the diamond is pretty noticeable in the picture, but the picture is obviously significantly magnified.

The seller is saying this is eye-clean, but how can that be with that black dot?

I know there is a lot of debate about this topic, but I''m curious who can you really trust. If the appraiser did grade this as SI2, would they be considered to have graded this fairly?

No reputable person would grade a diamond from a picture.

I understand that. I was told that the diamond was appraised in person by the appraiser.

My question is more a clarification of clarity. Is it possible for a stone to receive a SI2 rating from a reputable appraiser even WITH a black dot like that in the stone?

Anything I tell you is pure speculation Judes, but yes it is possible for a diamond to get SI2 with an inclusion like that, as to whether it is a fair grade and it wasn't given this by GIA then no way to tell unfortunately but if the stone was graded by a reputable appraiser known here then it is possible their opinion is accurate.

Why not? There is no guarantee that an SI2 will be eye-clean in the first place.
