Is this a transitional diamond? Help for a lurker...

This is my first post after lurking for quite a long time. I purchased a ring off of ebay that was sold as a .31ct transitional cut diamond. g/VS1. I received it and it really is beautiful. I don't know, however, if it really is a transitional cut diamond. After seeing so many beautiful 5 stone rings, I though this would be a fun project - to collect 5 old cut stones and have my own made. I was drawn to the pattern of this ring, but would like the opinions of the experts here on PS...hopefully the consensus will make my search for the next four stones easier. I am adding the photos from the ebay listing as they are much better than the ones I tried to take myself. Thanks so much! I look forward to peoples opinions/thoughts.

We'd need much closer pics of the stone to know if it's an OEC or transitional. And even then, the category from OEC to transitional is very vague. I've seen descriptions of 'late OEC to transitional' for a stone, there are no hard and fast rules. But back to the ring, if you have a jeweller's loupe, you could photograph the stone through the loupe, that would give us more information to go on. The ring is very pretty! Post more pics when you have the chance.

Thank you! I don't have a loupe but will try to take better pictures. I love the look of the older stones and the difference between this old stone and my MRB is so interesting!

I think it is a beautiful and very bright stone. I would say it is a transitional because of the longer lgf ... but let's see what Dreamer says.

I can't tell much from those photos, not enough for a "label". It looks like some type of older cut. Maybe a later one. Crown seems flatter and table bigger, so transitional might work if you want a name for it. Could be an early modern brilliant too.

Anyways, if you look for a suite, look to match crown height and table size. Ignore labels. You will never make a perfectly matched suite of course.

Thanks! I saw it and thought it was beautiful and that .31 is a great size for a 5 stone...but now finding others to match will be difficult! I do feel a little bad about taking it out of the original setting. The prongs are so sweet! I dream of having a large older cut ring but that won't be for quite some time.

Ok - I will keep table size/crown height in mind. I appreciate your help! I'm not a matchy matchy type of person anyway so having 5 unique stones will fit my overall personality.
