Long time lurker, first time poster... After extensive research (here and elsewhere) and 7 months searching, I've found an 8-main cushion brilliant which I am quite keen on - see attached photo - The fire in person is quite spectacular

I know 8-main cushion brilliants are pretty elusive. The price i've been quoted is £5,481 (GBP) which is a bit over my original budget - but is that price reasonable for the spec?? Any advice would be much appreciated!!

(I would have preferred lower clarity and higher polish & symmetry, but not been able to find a nice looking stone with this spec)

Spec is:
Depth 68.7 %
Table 58 %
Girdle Slightly Thick to Thick, Faceted
Culet None
Measurements 5.91 x 5.85 x 4.02 mm
Carat Weight 1.02 carat
Color Grade F
Clarity Grade VVS2
Fluorescence None
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good

Using the pricescope search tool and looking for a cushion diamond .98-1.04ct/F/VVS2. Vetted stones seem to be averaging in the mid-6000's. (Wow, that does seem high). The virtual stones are all over the board with some as low as the low 3's and 2 listed for 12,000:eek2:. Most seem to be somewhere in the 5000 range.

If I did the conversation correctly your jeweler is asking $7240usd. That does seem higher than what I have found on a quick search, but if this is a brick and mortar store that is very typical for the price to be higher than you would find with a trusted online vendor.

Octo2005 - doesnt the search tool just look for ANY cushion cut though (including modified etc), rather than specifically a cushion brilliant? I know cushion modified stones tend to be cheaper than a cushion brilliant - and that finding a nice 8-main cushion brilliant is like finding a needle in a haystack (and I've had zero joy with online vendors) - which is why I'm finding it hard to compare prices

It's not from a brick and mortar store as such - it was ordered in by a designer & gemmologist I'm hoping to work with. I'm sure there's a certain level of markup either way...

Generally speaking, I think the UK pays more for luxury good than we do here in the US. Take a look at the Enchanted Diamonds site. There are loads of cushions of various kinds, sizes, color, clarity, etc. to get a good feel for US pricing.

I agree, the cushion brilliants are much harder to find. It does make it harder to make price comparisons and makes it nearly impossible to be picky about a specific color/clarity. I looked for months before finding my cushion and just got lucky to come across it, since I also wanted an elongated stone.

Have you looked at any of the branded stones with online vendors, a hearts and arrows cushion will have 8 mains, but it is a different look than a cushion brilliant - not sure if it appeals to you.

The stone looks great, is the price included UK VAT ?

Yes - I'm not keen on the hearts and arrows cushions tbh (but thanks!)
I considered the AVCs too, but I just prefer the smaller facet structure of cushion brilliants.
I'd also considered the Brian Gavin 'Select' cushions, and the GOG Platinum Select cushions - but being UK based, I just cant get over not being able to see the stone in person before committing.

Check out GIA 2151550547 the stone is in the UK also 2151550547 and 7258000478

Do you know where might I be able to find these stones via their GIA numbers?

On the GIA website

I've seen the grading reports on the GIA website, but I mean if they are in the UK (and I assume for sale), do you know where I can view the stones themselves? - are they online somewhere, or would I need to ask a trader to order them in?

They are with Reve Diamonds contact via live chat or contact page
