The specs are the following, I had the vendor run a report on the actual dimensions of the diamond etc and angles..

Carat: 1.7 Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.52 x 7.46 x 4.81mm
Total Depth: 64.1%
Table Size: 57.2 (56.8 - 57.7)
Crown Angle: 37.4 (37.1 - 37.7)
Crown Height%: 16.4 (16.3 - 16.8)
Pavil Angle: 40.8 (40.3 - 41.4)
Pavil Depth: 43.2 (42.7 - 43.5)
Culet%: 0.3
Girdle Thickness: Thick to Very Thick
Polish: Ex
Symmetry: Ex
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Premium, H&A
Color: F
Fluorescence: Faint Blue

I''ve attached the HCA and AGA Grading Tool scores...not the greatest in my opinion but the vendor is offering it for $9210 which is almost 60% off the RP Price...also its for an EGL certified diamond..

1) Does the fact that a diamond has faint fluorescence really take away from the beauty or devalue the diamond?
2) If there is H&A in the diamond, that means the symmetry and portions are really great correct?

Thanks everyone in advance! Just want to know if I''m being ripped off for a crappy diamond or if its a decent deal. I looked at the actual diamond and it was beautiful, sparkled in every way possible. I''m going in on Saturday to compare it to a G, H GIA in terms of color...I know the EGL usually are lower by 1-2 grades but hoping to get lucky..

crap. H&A just means optical symm, which only HRD grades it as far as I know, and not necessary have anything to do with optical performance.

This stone has an apparent diameter of a 1.54c ideally cut stone, so check the RP of that, also EGL is automatically discounted by trade, how much depends on the lab that it comes from.

Try comparing the stones outside of store lighting conditions, as store lightings generally makes cuts that are less than ideal perform better than ideal cuts. Also, compare the stone color with an ideal cut stone, less ideal cut stone might look worse color wise because of light entrapment.

Thanks Stone. Wow so if that''s really a diameter of a 1.54c ideally cut stone...the discount is 54% under RP value...but if you say its crap then I''ll definitely pass on the opportunity.

Could you please tell me how I should look for the diameter to match the stone? 1.55 vs. 1.65 vs. 1.75?

And yeah for EGL I look for at least 40-60% discount off the RP price...

Hi khalsa

This isn't a well cut diamond and it will appear small for the weight, I would keep looking personally. Also don't get too hung up on spread/ face up size, if you find a well cut diamond this aspect will fall into place, it is important to check to make sure but as long as the diameter falls within suggested range for the weight thats fine.

Ah so glad I asked...I knew the deal was too good to be true! Thanks Stone and Lorelei!

Here are some quick cheat sheet numbers to aim for...

depth 60-62%
table 54-57%
crown angle 34-35 degrees
pavilion angle 40.6 - 41 degrees

If you find a stone that you like that is close do post the numbers...sometimes a little out of the ranges works
too.

cool, thanks tyty I''ll def use that as my rule of thumb!
