All...I''ve been doing a lot of research on diamonds. I didn''t know there was this much involved in finding a good one. I''ve been looking for a Radiant cut, but there doesn''t seem to be any set standards out there yet. I finally found a diamond that I think is really good, but would like some advise. Below are the GIA specs:

Shape and Cutting Style: Cut-cornered square Modified Brilliant (Radiant)

Measurements: 5.92x5.88x4.03
Weight: 1.12 carrot

Proportions
Depth - 68.5%
Table - 60%
Girdle - Thin to Medium
Culet - None

Finish
Polish - Good
Symmetry - Very Good

Clarity - VVS2
Color - E
Fluorescence - None

The price is $5,815.
This is an on-line purchase price, and seems to be much cheaper than what a retail store would charge.

I guess I have two questions.
1. Is this a good diamond?
2. Is it worth the price?

Any help woud be appreciated.

This is all in good humor, but I couldn't resist...

Hi,

I am not an expert, with that said ...

I have looked at some cut cornered brilliants, and I think this is one of the nicest Ideal scopes that I have seen of late. I like the fact that this one doesn''t have any light leakage right smack dab in the center of the stone. For myself, my eyes always naturally fixate on the center of the stone, so to me ... it is important that the center be right ... and then my eyes encompass the rest of the stone, so hopefully it all flows together.

Is there a pic of the stone too?

Also, you can call the vendor and have them try to get you more of "that type" of stone in. I know for a fact that GOG is reputable, friendly and willing to work with you so that you get something awesome for your budget. You can also ask them to eyeball it for you and give you their opinion about it.

Good luck,

Do you really need VVS2? If you drop down some clarity you'll save some money and as long as it stays to VS1 or VS2 you'll never notice the difference, except *maybe* under a microscope.

I don't know much about cushion cuts, quite honestly, so I can't comment on the rest of it (angles, measurements). The IS image looks good though, esp for a fancy like this.

I''m not terribly crazy about this idealscope image. It seems like there''s a lot of light leakage in that stone. If you''re working with GOG, I would have them pick out another stone for you. The price seems fine for this stone since it''s an E, VVS2, maybe even a little on the low side.

Who are you going through? Maybe you should research what the table and depth should be for this type of stone. If the specs are good, then it seems like a good deal.
