I found an amazing tiffany style setting at local jewelers made in platinium for only 355 and also they had matched me with this stone :
0.56 vs2 excellent cut vg polish ,excellent symmetry 62.2% depth, 57% table ,measuring 5.295.31x3.29,stone was priced at 1400 sth they went down to 1400. Is it a good deal?:)

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

it's also GIA stone .

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

crown angle?
Pavilion angle?

On the surface, it looks like a good deal. How did the stone look to you?

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

It looked really good. I have no other specs probably until tomorrow. I was at first looking at this stone from whiteflash, but hassle of getting stone separate without even seeing it and then paying for mounting is make me loo more towards this ,even little less grade stone.Thats the one from whiteflash: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2970609.htm.. I aam also no sure if I will be able to see a real difference between these two, and of course price is much better on the GIA stone. Please let me know what you think ! I will attache pictures later :)

Also the VS2 stone was picked among many other showed to us where we found the setting,so it got some more meaning because it was chosen together by me and my fiance.

Sounds like you love it so get it. Why couldn't you see the Whiteflash diamond? They have photos?

I can see pictures on whiteflash of course but I meant seeing two stones next to each other, the wf one turns back with much better hca scores but I am not sure if seeing it live I could tell the real difference between these two ?
Please let me know, I am doing my best to do all the research to pick the right one :)

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

The 2 stones are pretty different in that the GIA is an X,X,VG while the AGS is a 000 white flash signature ACA cut to extreme high standards. The GIA also has faint flour, and i'm not sure if that has an impact on the price, but it shouldn't have an impact on the look. Without scope images, we have no idea of the condition if the GIA stone's heart and arrows. One good thing about the gia besides the price is that its a vs2 while the ags is an si1, althought WF did state that the ACA was eye clean so there might be no appreciable difference to the naked eye. The GIA's grade setting inclusion is a cloud, check that it does not affect performance, although this is unlikely in a VS stone.

With respect to the GIA numbers, the CA/PA combo would be what would be considered a steep cut, this could result in a beautiful stone or an average stone. A safe way to checkwould be to get idealscope images to check for leakages.

The price difference is $150, but as you mentioned, the gia stone has additional significance in that you selected it together with your fiance. If you've looked at it, and like it, I personally think that you should just go ahead. Your local jeweller is probably also giving you a discount for setting the stone as you got the stone from them. Getting a whiteflash stone might inccur additional setting costs unless you get the setting from white flash as well, but that would mean a whole different set of calculations.

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

Is there going to be a real difference in look of these stones? Is the ags going to look really good ? Thats true I will probably need to pay for ags to have it set. So far I can get the gia for 1400 ,setting for 355 and 50 for ship out of state ( to pay no tax) or can get ags for 1479 wire transfer , 355 setting+tax and probably 50-70 to set it . So real overall difference may be not that large, I am just confused whats best to do and I don't know diamonds that well as you guys;)

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

Also I am not sure if they will price down the setting any more, at 355$ for platinium I think price is very low, most places had 14k gold at this price ,or even gold at 650$/setting! I am trying to work with them on some discounts, and they also know I am looking at the AGS stone, sadly they said they dont have anything like it ( that will be too easy right?:)

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

The difference in performance is not simply because it is an AGS graded stone, but more because it is a white flash ACA. Whether you can see a difference, really depends on your eyes. Without scope images, theres no way to tell you the optical symmetry which also plays a role in performance. Assuming near perfect optical symmetry, the difference should not be that large in casual viewing. Possibly less brilliance but more fire.

Price wise, unless you are on a very tight budget, the ACA would be better. But the human factors such as having selected the stone together, i can't factor that in, only you can.

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

I will try to get idealscope, but indeed the one we picked together seems to have more meaning

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

darkadam is absolutely right, it's impossible for us to tell you the real differences between these two stones without more information. GIA averages and then rounds it's proportions which makes it difficult to make anything other than assumptions about it's cut...this is why sarins or ideal scope images would be helpful. I can say that GIA has a much broader range of proportions that fall within it's excellent cut range, many people feel that it's much too broad. ACA's are held to a might tighter standard and are some of the most beautiful diamonds available today. IMO the safer bet is the ACA. If you truly want the most beautiful option, then beating the ACA is going to be tough and I would have no problem whatsoever purchasing one sight unseen. However you have to weigh that against the significance of selecting a stone with your SO. Would it be as meaningful to you to purchase the ACA and then select the setting together?

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

We arleady found the setting at the same place as we were shown the GIA stone, so we went together thru many stones ( mayby even 10 ) and tried them all how they look in the setting, how they look at white background etc. I am not sure if the seller has idealscope images for that stone, also as I mentioned before I am not sure If I will see that much of a difference between these 2 .( as long as one doesnt appear really bland comparing to other ) Only response I got from seller is that GIA is hearts and arrows too.Thank you for taking your time to reply. It really helps !

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

If the stone is hearts and arrows too, could if get you an image of the hearts and arrows which you could post ?

Re: Is this a good price for this round diamond ? 0.56 cw vs

So far I only have images of the stone I posten ( can not be used for any evaluation - I know ) I dont think the seller has any pictures of the stone, they sell loose stones but I am pretty sure most of their sales is to clients who see stones live so they dont have pictures on their website :( Thank you for your answers - you are wonderful ! :)
