Anyone, anyone. Please help!!

I'm mostly uninformed about crown and pavilion %s as well as depth and table %s.

Most appreciated!

I really don't know enough to help you on princess cuts. However, Dave Atlas publishes the AGA cut charts which are a good reference on several cut types. Check them out through the DIY cut advisor here: http://www.gemappraisers.com/.

Keep posting questions as you get smarter about the cut issues. There are lots of princess savvy people here.

By the #s...not so hot...it's going to be flat and dull (of course, numbers don't tell the whole story....) BUT, I think it's 99.999999% certain it won't be that great. I'd keep looking unless you've seen it and you love it!

I'm in no way an expert, but I would MAKE SURE the diamond you're interested in is really brilliant in person. From my study of princess cuts, here's what I can tell you:

A larger table is nice because you can see the beautiful cut of the pavilion, but when it's too large (greater than 75) you may be sacrificing some of the brilliance, etc.

Also, having the table larger than the depth isn't always the best thing either. Some people will disagree (there are exceptions to every rule), but of the diamonds I've seen, the advice of people on this forum tends to be right on.

Another thing I don't like is the variation from thin to thick in the girdle. What I've found is this may actually affect the facets/symmetry or something like that (I don't remember the exact thing I was told, but I do remember it's better to have a uniform girdle).

I personally would look for a stone with a larger crown. While I don't think it needs to be extremely high, I think the "at least 10%" guideline is a pretty good one.

Finally, the only advice I have is to go for cut, then color, then clarity. If the cut of the stone is ideal/premium, you can get a beautiful stone in the H-I color range (that faces up white) with down to SI1-SI2 clarity (eye-clean) for a great price!

At any rate, these are just tidbits of information I've picked up in my research. What everyone has told me is "you can't judge a book by it's cover", but in my own experience it sure gives me a better idea if it's worth taking a look at. Use the AGA charts created by David Atlas as a guideline http://www.gemappraisers.com/ and the advice of the experts on this forum. It will help lead you to a great diamond, and, if you're lucky, a better stone for your money.

If, however, you've seen your stone, compared it to others, and know that it's truly spectacular, go for it! People here say that the right stone will speak to you, and I'd have to agree

Thanks for the advice! Any other opinions out there? I'm desperate for info and unfortunately need to move quickly!

Thanks!

It is not practical to get to see enough stone to build experience of what princess cuts look like at different proportions, cut qualities... and so on. Especially that no seller is likely to line up a varied enough selection infront of you

Assuming that diamonds that are not brilliant had better not been cut

(or have nice color, but this another story), are you in enough hurry not to take one of those Ideal Scopes while shopping next time? I really know of no easier shortcut to finding out where a stone ranks in terms of 'sparkle.

At this point I do not know whether you would buy online for even the best of reasons, ot what the price for the respective stone was. But here are a couple of promissing "sets of numbers"

for:

2.01 G/VS2 square princess cut and an F/SI2

and another: E-VS1 and

So... no, better proportions are not that unlikely finds...

Aside from the larger table, what about the 7% crown% and 60% pavilion%??

Any comments on these factors?

Thanks again!
