Greetings everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am shopping for an engagement ring and I found a suitable diamond and I would like your opinion if this is a good stone to purchase. Here is the info from the GIA certificate:

Round Brilliant
6.91-6.97-4.15
1.20 Carat
G
VS2
Cut Grade Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
Fluorescence None

Depth 59.8%
Table 58%
Crown Angle 33.5 degrees
Pavillion Angle 41 degrees

Under addtional comments:

Additional clouds, pinpoints and surface graining are not shown.

My concerns is as follows:

This diamond is rated at VS2 so it should be eye clean right?
The girdle is rated and thin to medium 2.5%, should I be concerned about chipping?
The dimension of the stone is not a typical for 1.20 carat. This measures more like a 1.3 carat (bonus) but I'm worried that the diamond is not cut to the right proportion and will not give off the best brilliance, sparkle and fire. It does get the triple EX from GIA and using the HCA calculator on this site, it comes in a value of 1 so the diamond should look fantastic.
I am not able to see the stone in person as I reside in Toronto, Ontario and the stone is located in New York.

What do you guys think?

I am considering hiring an appraiser to view the stone before making the purchase. Does any one here have any experience with an appraiser in the NYC area that you can recommend?

Scores a 1.0 -> 4x Ex on the HCA and falls within GIA and AGS's Excellent/Ideal cut range. That is pretty good news but doesn't tell you the whole story.

VS2 is a safe bet on being eye-clean, but not a guarantee. I'd want to have it evaluated by a gemologist for that dollar amount purchase to make sure it is and find out why it's earning that grade. Someone selling a stone of that quality most certainly will have appropriate staff to accommodate that request.

You didn't state how much was being asked for that stone, but just doing a quick search on diamond prices, you should expect the cost to be around $9000 if buying the stone online give or take.

I'd ask for IdealScope/ASET and for a gemologist to explain what inclusions the diamond has and proceed from there.

Thank you everyone who has responded to my post. The listed price is approx about $8500USD with shipping and a pricescope discount . Are there any Canadian's here who has bought a diamond cross border who have some experience with online sales? Item is shipped with Fedex International Priority. Will there be a brokerage fee charged? Information on Fedex website is not very clear on this. If anyone has any experience with this, please advise.

I'm a little uneasy about buying a SI grade stone. Don't get me wrong, I would love to save some money and spend it on a vacation, but I think my girlfriend would like something with better quality especially for an engagement ring. I feel that S1 stones are great value but more suitable for other occasions. What are your thought? Any women on here that like to give her 2 cents?

The merchant is with B2C Jewels, they seem to have the best prices on diamonds comparing with Blue Nile, James Allen, Brian Gavin, White Flash etc. They are rated A on the BBB and reviews that I come across the web seems to be positive. Has anyone here ever bought from them before? Any thoughts?

b2c is a reputable dealer, there is no doubt.

Just an FYI - BBB rankings are mostly marketing at this point. It's structured such that you will get higher scores (and have less negative reviews) if you pay regular dues to BBB. Don't use BBB rankings as a metric for the legitimacy of a business.

Do a search here on PS and you will find many people happy with their b2c purchases.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your comments. I am searching for a Tiffany Setting replica. There are many threads about this but some are a few years old. What do you think is the closest match? From what I gather on different forums the Vatche is the closest match. Is the Vatche ring worth the extra premium compared to other replicas?

To get more assistance with your setting search, I would suggest starting a new thread with a more relevant Subject line.

Many of the folks that comment on diamonds will be different than the folks who are setting experts. A separate thread will allow setting experts to weigh in!
