What is your opinion of this stone for 3500?
Here is the information I was given:
Egl report for 1.12ct modern round cut natural diamond:
Color: E
Clarity: SI2
Measurements in millimeters: 6.47- 6.37 x 4.22mm.
Depth: 65.7%
Table: 60 %
Estimated retail replacement value: $10,290.00
You might be able to sell it for that. Online price of a comparable 1.2 carat stone is about $4,010 per carat and that price is about $3125 per carat, about 78%, so about 20% less than new retail sales. However, a 1.15 E SI1, not SI2, is offered for $3980 per carat so that is more likely competition for anyone in the market today. Both those with EGL certificates. If you want to get most money from a retail customer you could go via one of the appraisers and have them confirm the grading for the potential purchaser before they commit to the purchase.None of this says enough about the cut quality of the diamond you have or which is being offered for sale. The diamond you spcified isn't an investment quality diamond, though it could have been offered for sale and purchased as one.
Investment would be D IF, D F or similar very high color and clarity. Doesn't mean nothing else can be sold on the pretense that it is a good investment. Not a good idea for a consumer to buy any diamond as an investment because you start off with a 30% to 50% drop in value.
