When all is said and done you probally will not have an ascher cut, just a square emerald cut. depending on how the stone is cut (need crown height) and who graded the stone. I would be somewhere between 4900 and 5700 if the stone was cut well. If it isn't another 10-15% below those figures

Yes, Mr. Hound,,,,,You have the scent. Ha!

The table size alone probably eliminates the Asscher possibility...

Interesting, what exactly are the pinpointable differences of a square emerald and an Asscher?

Small table size, generally a deep depth, the number of facets is greater on a real Asscher than most modern emerald cuts, wide cut corners, relatively high crown height. All of those denote ASSCHER and not regular near square emerald cut.

Interesting! I noticed that the e-mail address is to fabrikant.com. Is that any relation to Fabrikant the jewelers? They have a store here on 47th, and they have lovely things. I would love to stop in and see a real royal Asscher! Getting to be a Asscher fan...

Plus, a real asscher-look is distinctly octagonal, all the way down to the "core"--like increasingly tiny stop signs.

Of course, if what you're looking for is actually a square emerald, then check out the AGA chart: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc2.asp
