Is There No Snowstorm Thread Yet?

I had to use a temperature conversion chart to work that one out. Usually I have some "markers" for Celsius temperatures that I know, but I didn't recognize -38C. It is -36.4F which I have never experienced! Yikes.

If you just remember that - 40C = - 40F, that will help for thinking about these really cold temperatures. ;(

That will do it. The way I remember how hot 40C is (given that I am used to F) is that my mother-in-law once wrote to me that the temperature was unbearably hot at 40C degrees and that made me look it up. (When I lived in France I used to set the thermostat between 18 and 22.)

Our ferals are doing well I’m happy to report! Snow doesn’t get them down for long. ❤️

Just an inch or two of snow here. But b/c we don't have the proper infrastructure to deal with snow/ice, the whole city of Portland, OR has shut down. Over 200k people in the county lost power too but fortunately (knock on wood) we aren't affected at this time.

Current weather here in the Great White North. Not too bad...

Found these tracks by my front steps earlier. I think they belong to a raccoon..

Awww that's so cute! It wanted to come in and get out of the cold.

Also, -11? To heck with that!

I feel bad for the raccoon. My mother used to feed the ones behind our house and they were practically tame, but that was many decades ago and she had to stop as the world changed. It is hard to believe that my mother has been gone for13 years.

We also feel bad for the raccoons so we are leaving the feral cat feeder open 24/7 for now. Til the weather calms down. I’m sorry you’re missing your mom Deb. Gentle hugs. ❤️

Not sure what kind of critter is living either beneath my porch or below my shed, but the perfect tracks are cool.

I took these pictures a few days ago. Our backyard backs up to a farm that is 1/2 mile deep and we regularly see cows outside. When the weather is nicer my kids love to go visit them. F5919050-9FC9-4C51-B273-485F9C38CB99.jpeg

That’s cool!
At our old house we had something living under our shed too. I think there might of been an entire family. We could never figure out what it was.

I'm sorry. You must miss her very much.
Are people permitted to keep raccoons as pets? I didn't think so but I occasionally see them posted on social media. They're so smart...and cute!

Found these tracks on my deck...

IMG_20210214_1116157_2.jpg

A few weeks ago, there was another set of tracks on my deck and they were weird. Whatever it was had to be pretty long because the tracks were almost 2 feet apart.

I'm seeing images where snow has reached houston?? thats crazy!

SoFl nopped out of this mess, at least for now. We had 90 degrees yesterday. They're saying 80's today.

Galvaston, TX has snow on the beach...wow.....

It’s pretty bad in Austin where DS lives. They’re having rolling blackouts, and the major roads are so icy, they’re being told to stay home, lots of cars abandoned all over the place. They’ve got no heat at the moment either, and it’s freezing there.

We are supposed to be getting another foot of snow tonight.

@kayla17 , Your view is beautiful. I love the farm!

That is scary. Hope their power/heat is restored soon.

Hi @Canuk Gal, It feels like I live Canada the past couple of weeks. Snow every other day and -10 windchills. Everything looks beautiful. It’s funny how much prettier snow looks if you don‘t have to drive in it.
