We had highs near 100 for most of June.
And we are back in the high 90s this week.
The bad part is that night time temps stay in the 80s.
And if it rains things get steamy and tropical.
Yes we are in quite the heatwave in NYC . We hit 103 F yesterday which I believe is a record for the date.
It is sweltering here. I just heard that Con Ed is reducing power to lots of neighborhoods to conserve so as not to have a blackout...I am sweating as I type this! And that is with the AC on!!
We've been between 95 and 98 degrees all week, and it's been miserable. You have to be in air conditioning, or else you can't breathe.
The air is thick with humidity.
I'm really looking forward to the end of September.
I feel for those of you in places not used to that heat. It is indeed pretty nasty. But honestly, 103 is as common as daisies during an Oklahoma summer. The summer of 80 was hellish, and 98 was truly awful - I remember it well because I was house hunting that summer. It was hitting 105 and 107 pretty often as I recall.
Right now, it's unseasonably cool here, with overcast, monsoon rains, and highs of around 88, 89.
It's global warming. Oh...wait....I read one climate change guy say that the term "warming" was not the best term and we should call it "global weirding" because the weather just gets weird. Seems apt.
It was 103 degrees here at 6pm yesterday in southeast PA (NewHope near Lambertville NJ). This morning 7am it was already 87 degrees. Even the pool was too warm to cool off, so staying indoors and catching up on a lot of reading and other little stuff. The dog doesn't even want to go outdoors unless necessary.
To top it off we haven't even had a smidgeon of rain in weeks. Everything is so dry it has sparked some brush fires in the area. I put water out for the little birds and am watching them swim around in it. Life's simple pleasures! Ah.........
Another Philly resident here... It's so hot. 95+ for 5+ days... 103 yesterday as Autumnovember said. Yuck!! It'd be at least tolerable if the humidity weren't so bad! My poor DH works outside, too.
I heard San Fran's been beautiful... my colleague just got back from vacay there. Soak up some cool air for me, you Californians!
oh my god yes. it has been brutal in NJ. unbelievable. i go outside to water plants and break a sweat after only a few minutes-- and i usually love hot weather. there has been a draught too--- someone i know's well dried up
I live in northern New England and the temps have been in the high 90s this week. It even read 103-105 in some places yesterday. The problem here isn't so much the hot temperature but the humidity. Luckly, we have central air in our condo.
ETA: At night, it's cooled off and the it's been in the 70s, which is nice.
Growing up in Missouri we would have stretches of 100+-degree days and that was very normal. And we never had air conditioning. Since moving to the Northeast, however, I'm used to the summer highs being in the 80's. Yesterday it reached 100 degrees in Boston and I thought it was completely unbearable. I can't even call my parents to complain because they'll tell me how wimpy I've become. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the cooler air on the West coast makes its way over here!
ETA: It's super dry here, too. Our lawn is brown and we finally tried to water a small section yesterday. It's so dry that it's crispy now. When we walk on it it sounds like we're walking on cereal. I admittedly hate the heat and much prefer winter over summer. I'm so looking forward to the fall!
Its pretty bad. I am in Baltimore and yesterday when I came in it was 102 degrees with lots of humidity. It is unbearable in the sun. Plus everything is really dry. We havent had rain in a while. Everyones yard is dead. There are a few people that water their grass and it is obvious who those people are. I think that if this continues they will put a ban on watering your yard. I think that we are almost in drought.
I'm in Frederick, MD. Yesterday the high was 106, and I believe the heat index hit 114. We've been in the 100s all week and most of last week. The grass is all brown and the corn is about to succumb (poor corn!). It hasn't rained in weeks. Interestingly enough, our water supply is great this year, but only because of the 52 inches of snow we got in the span of one week last winter. We have storms in the forecast for tomorrow and Friday, but who knows. This area has had many a storm pass directly beneath it this month.
In other news, I had yesterday off and had to waste it sitting inside to avoid turning into a crispy critter.
I'm in Virginia and it was 102 yesterday and it's supposed to reach 103 today
funny, my grandma called yesterday and said it was REALLY hot in Michigan lately, and that holy cow, it hit 88! I couldn't help but laugh! 88 is spring weather compared to these 100+ temps!
Yesterday it was 85 with 86% humidity... the day before 73, but humidity was 89%... over the weekend it was in the upper 80's but SO humid. I spent the entire weekend in the pool
