is there a heatwave in your area?

Yes, Québec and Ontario are also being hit by a heat wave. 100 degrees and up plus humidity all week. We've moved to the basement of the house, where it's a nice 77 degrees, and I take a quick dip in the pool every time the baby naps! The water was at 86 degrees this morning, so it's almost not so refreshing anymore though.

Yes! It's been 35C all week. :angryfire: I don't do well with heat. I actually prefer winter here. I'm praying our central air doesn't die on us from being on so much 24/7. That did happen one year and we went 4 days without a/c in the sweltering heat and humidity. Scarred me for life. Well, not really, but close.

I'm in Frederick, MD. Yesterday the high was 106, and I believe the heat index hit 114. We've been in the 100s all week and most of last week. The grass is all brown and the corn is about to succumb (poor corn!). It hasn't rained in weeks. Interestingly enough, our water supply is great this year, but only because of the 52 inches of snow we got in the span of one week last winter. We have storms in the forecast for tomorrow and Friday, but who knows. This area has had many a storm pass directly beneath it this month.

In other news, I had yesterday off and had to waste it sitting inside to avoid turning into a crispy critter. :nono:

I'm in Adams County, PA so I know what you mean!! Bad thing about storms, sometimes it's really heavy rain and it doesn't soak in the ground as much. It just runs down the ground if it's hilly and settles only int he low spots. Hopefully it gets better. My flowers are DYING! Normally the rain helps me out when I become lazy and don't want to go out and water them!

100 yesterday here, 102 today in NJ. I just came in from my break and its sooooooooo humid, you are instantly drenched. Its gross.

Im wasting so much water to try and make the straw thats in my front yard back into grass....

It was 103 degrees here at 6pm yesterday in southeast PA (NewHope near Lambertville NJ). This morning 7am it was already 87 degrees. Even the pool was too warm to cool off, so staying indoors and catching up on a lot of reading and other little stuff. The dog doesn't even want to go outdoors unless necessary.

To top it off we haven't even had a smidgeon of rain in weeks. Everything is so dry it has sparked some brush fires in the area. I put water out for the little birds and am watching them swim around in it. Life's simple pleasures! Ah.........

I live 15 mins from new hope :) Love that area!

I live in Texas. It's always a heat wave.

I love New Hope and Lambertville! My dh and I go there every season. There are great antique stores and a marvelous jewelry store in Lambertville where I have bought many beautiful jewelry pieces!!

Julianna, I'm very close to you. I drove past a bank thermometer yesterday afternoon and it said 108. Yes, that's one. Oh. Eight. :knockout:

And we soooo need some rain! I can't remember the last time it rained! ;(

I live in northern New England and the temps have been in the high 90s this week. It even read 103-105 in some places yesterday. The problem here isn't so much the hot temperature but the humidity. Luckly, we have central air in our condo.

ETA: At night, it's cooled off and the it's been in the 70s, which is nice.
it's very common in our area to hit 100* + during the summer but dry heat. i don't see how you guys can tolerate the high temperature with humidity. :knockout:

Again, my sympathies to all who are not from places where this is common. It's pretty stinky when it happens here and we're used to it.

(don't like this quoting system...grr...)

I'm at the southernmost part of Canada I think. It feels like the tropics. We never get used to it somehow. The a/c never keeps up quite enough. Sometimes we go to the mall or such just to have a cooler place to be for awhile.

Yep mid 90"S all week :angryfire: and so humid hard to breath outside. Trying to keep cool.

Yeah, down here in the more southern climes, choosing that AC is super serious business. I spent 6 grand on mine when I replaced it back in 2004. A major outlay, but worth every penny, and I was and am tickled spitless that I had the money to do it. Super-efficient and can get this house chilly if we want. Mmmm!! Pretty frugal with it though, fans help a bunch even now.

I remember as a kid, going to Denver from OKC in a 1965 Pontiac Bonneville with black interior and no AC. I also lived in an unairconditioned dorm (top floor even) my first 2 years at college (to save money). Pure misery. I am now too old for that crap and understand how people die in the heat.

I was doing some research earlier - 1980, which I remember as a crazy year, had 50 days over 100, and the '98 heatwave had at least 40, started in May, and didn't break until about October. We aren't THE hottest but we hold our own in Oklahoma surely.

Hope you guys all get some relief soon!!

This is my first reply on PS 2.0! Commence nerdy excitement!

Its been mid 90s in the mitten for like 3-4 days. High humidity. All around miserable.

Can I have winter back please?

or move to Ca. ;))

Oh my lord, it's been in the mid 90's, even up to 100 here in Detroit. I don't remember having summers like this when I was young... Maybe one or two days in August, but never all summer!!!!

My friend posted a picture of her car thermometer on the way home...109. You must be close to here! ::) Today we're back into the chilly mid-90's. :rodent:

yes...it's SOOOOOO hot in NYC. :((

It finally rained really hard last night. Over the week it has been in the 80% humidity range (even with light rain) ... FINALLY it rained and now it's only 3 degrees less in the house (77o) but the humidity went down to 39%! I feel like I can finally breathe

It's 82 degrees out and it feels just perfect now with the much lower humidity!! 8)

YES :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

It has been amazing! 70s-80s the last few days. I think we even broke a record high yesterday!

Today is supposed to get up to 96 and tomorrow 88!!!!

I'm so HAPPPPPYYYYY!

Sorry, I've been freezing lately and really sick of the gray-cloudy-rainy weather we've been having since last summer ended... (okay, we've had a couple of nice days since then but not many)

After everyone here complaining about the late arrival of summer, it hit this week with 100+ temperatures. It's not cooling down at night which makes it difficult to sleep. Already I can tell people are getting surly because of the heat.

i'm not too far from you all either - i live in Gaithersburg and it's been sweltering these past few days! it was a total smack in the face since i recently came back from vacationing in the Smoky Mountains in NC, and it was 85 degrees and breezy all week long.

I opened windows this morning for the first time in a week! I hate not being able to open windows during spring and summer, but it's been too darned hot. It's 75 degrees right now, but the humidity is 89%. I guess I'll close them all in a hour or so and put the AC back on.

Hey neighbor, I work in Frederick. Fortunately, I was in the Florida Keys the past few days. I talked to my parents earlier in the week and they said it was 105 up here. Hard to believe it was 15 degrees cooler all week down there. How often can you go to South Florida in July to "cool off"?

Came back to a brown yard and dead plants. I'd love to see some rain around here. Guess I won't have to mow the grass any time soon.

It's always hot and humid here in Florida, but we can usually just go to the beach. However, I'm on the gulf coast and now with the oil spill our beaches are contaminated ;( :blackeye:

It is burning up in London! 32C! I've never seen this kind of (consistent) heat in all the years I've lived here.
