But I think we sometimes get so hung up with the ultimate cut, that anything less is crap even if it''s not true.

I think that is less true than it was in the past.
I have tried to move towards telling people what it is they are looking at and letting them draw their own conclusions except in very clear cut cases.
I think a lot of the pro-sumers have followed suit.
That is one thing I look for is if someone had explained it and do so if no-one else has.
