I just got a Scott Kay ring from a reputable vendor, and I think one of the prongs is crooked. I''ve attached a couple photos. Does it look like the upper left prong should be moved counter-clockwise a little?

Would appreciate your input!

Pretty ring! It does look a bit off...it is very slight, but I can see it.

It does look slightly off, if you didn''t mention it, I never would have noticed it. It''s a gorgeous ring!!

It''s a tiny difference, but yes I can see it. It looks like something that can be easily fixed with a re-set.

What is the name of that setting? It is gorgeous...

Kim, it does not seem to be off to me, see on the picture please - the arrow is passing the center and still making it to the questionable prong. Remember that a prong is better be placed on a facet, that's why it can be a bit off the exact opposite of another one.

Is it not the slot in the box which is off or the way the ring is positioned in the box? It seems that the band is not lying straight.

I actually don''t think it''s off, I think the ring is sitting crookedly in the box...

Forget what I just said, I notice it is Irina''s photo I took the picture off which is different from your original photo.

I still think it''s crooked. The lenth from the shank to the prong is different on the prong at the upper-right than the other prongs. Note the differences in the length of each bar I created in this image:

I notice that you have two original photos and the first one it looks off in too which is higher magnification. I wonder if this has something to do with it. There was a post here about people finding faults with their rings when vendors posted the photo highly magnified and then when they got it, it was not apparent with the naked eye. Did you see it on the ring first or on a photo first? If you are unhappy you should ask your vendor''s advice.

Yes I see what you mean KCoursolle.

KimN has the ring been resized? I have seen jewellers in the UK resizing a ring and not altering any of the prongs and it looking off, but that was not expensive rings so probably nothing to do with this.

That is what I was going by. Comparing the top and bottom right prongs to the top and bottom left prongs, there is more distance between the two on the left than the two on the right.

Thank you for the input, everyone. I appreciate it.

Yes, this is what I was going by too. Similarly, there is more distance between the top two than between the bottom two.

Pyramid, I saw the asymmetry within a minute or two of receiving the ring, just looking at it with the naked eye. However, I wasn''t completely sure it was off, because it looked like it was still correctly between the two arrows. I think I''ll contact my vendor about it. I just wanted to see if others saw what I was seeing.

The ring hasn''t been resized.

Irina, I didn''t know that a prong could be a bit off the exact oppposite. I also wasn''t sure if it was off because it still lies between the two arrows, but even with the naked eye, I''m seeing something asymmetrical. I think the asymmetry I see is from the lengths that kcoursolle drew in her diagram.

Thank you! Not sure of the name, but it''s by Scott Kay, and it is the plain solitaire with two surprise diamonds on either side.

You know the top left prong looks off to me also and more than just a little by my eye but I bet it is an easy fix so call the vendor and enquire. Good Luck.

The top left prong looks a bit off to me too. I had a similar problem with 1 of my 6 prongs not being even and had it fixed. It''s much better now. I know it can really bug you so hope you can get it fixed soon. It shouldn''t be difficult for the vendor to fix.

if it looks off to you, I''d ask the vendor about sending it back to scott kay for them to fix. I doubt it would be any problem at all.

It is a little off, but can be moved. This is not a big deal.

Yes, it’s off.

As mentioned above, it’s probably very easy to correct. Not that this is much of a consolation, they certainly should have done it right the first time rather than making you bring it back in for repair. I use the word ‘repair’ advisedly. This is more a matter of finishing the original job. The result isn’t going to be a ring that has been retrofitted or is in any way inferior to brand new. By all means get it fixed, but this is not something to lose sleep over.

You might consider getting a professional inspection when you get it back. There are other craftsmanship topics that are more subtle.

It is not right to draw vertical and horizontal lines around an angled photo images, there are all 3 coordinates probably not being zero. The only connection one can assume is thru the center of the diamond.

You are right..., assuming its ''angled''.
Based on the face-up appearance of the Diamond, I am prety certain the prongs vs band are not balaced.

But you are 100% right Pricescope....

It is not fair (of us) to judge the symmetry and balance of this ring based on an image!!!

DiaGem, please look at the green lines - that''s where we would see the back of the shank was it not for the padding of the box. Blue arrows are indicating where shank will not be visible. So there is a tilt in this particular direction at least. With perspective making a big difference in such closeups i would not make a conclusion about that prong.
But Kim, if it bothers you sure ask for an adjustment.

Youre making sense...,
But still, in this image something looks not right.
