Hello, My fiancé gifted me a ring based on the GIA certificate. It's a 0.83ct- D-vs1-3ex-none round diamond. The proportions of the diamond are at the limit of the specified ranges. Table: 57% Total depth: 62.9% :( Girdle: medium-slightly thick 4.0% Crown angle: 36° :( Pavillion angle: 40.6°
Also, in brightly lit places like a store, the diamond look like gray glass. I'd like to know if this diamond my fiancé bought is bad.

do you have the GIA report # ? Is it a Lab Diamond ?

Doğal elmas. Evet, var, ekliyorum.1000125596.jpg

well the proportions are more skewed to Fire than Brilliance so that may be what you are seeing... But it is a nice diamond - it's just a different "flavor".....
Also for max performance make sure you are cleaning it regularly ... Diamonds are grease magnets so will absorb oils/ hand lotions etc.....

It would fall into the Firey Ideal cut: more fire, but less brightness. Is it bad? No. Could it be more well-rounded...yes.

It is a tad on the deep side, but it doesnt seem to be hurting too bad from that (width-wise).

Ditto @freddyboston ...I clean my rings a couple of times a week. More if I know it's gotten dirty from something. That could
be your issue.

I think it looks really good. Diamonds that are well cut reflect their surroundings and look very different in various lighting. In high spot lighting, they go dark and grey or brown (depending on tint) but they also shoot off huge sparkles of fire. Do you see the fire when it goes grey?

Also remember the diamond is drawing light from behind you.
You might be in a bright area but behind you is a wall of boxes much less bright than in front of you.
In that case turn around 180 degrees and enjoy the show.

remember comparison is the robber of joy
PSers love fire around here !

has it had a clean since you recieved it ?
you can just use dish washing liquid (one without mositurizor) and a soft toothbrush in bottled water (i have very hard water so i don't use tap water)

also never trust the lighting they use in malls or jewllery stores

i think your fiancé did really well
congradulations

I think your diamond is very pretty and you should enjoy it. He did a great job. And as others have said, make sure to clean it often.

No, it's not reasonable to trade it for a 41.6 pavilion stone...that is way too high a pavilion. You'd be trading down.

Clean it with some Dawn like dishwasher soap and a soft toothbrush. Most people love to see Fire and specifically want a high
crown.

Should I be happy and convinced that it's a beautiful stone, even if it doesn't have a lot of brilliance? Frankly, it was a bit of a luxury purchase for where I live, and we don't think we'll be able to make such a purchase again. Therefore, since I wanted to have the best possible one when I bought it, the lack of brilliance upset me.

The question of whether you should be happy and convinced that it’s a beautiful stone can’t be answered by others, asli. I have a feeling you realize that. I hope you find peace with your diamond. And best wishes on your engagement.

I think perhaps your expectations are not in line with how really well cut stones perform across lighting. You can find diamonds that will always look bright white. We usually consider those to be less well cut because they lack fire. If you are used to friends or seeing others with poorly cut stones your expectations might be off. Also consider cleaning it very well with dish soap, a few drops household ammonia, and a baby toothbrush. Then ask your partner to take some pictures of your diamond from a distance. And visit a grocery store or another with high spot lighting. Look at the flash and light show your stone outs off.

Many jewelry stores ironically have terrible lighting for diamonds and they look dead and lifeless. Don’t judge by that.

How does it look under a tree on a sunny day? How does it look in a cloudy day? How does it look in a kitchen? You hate it in all lighting or just some lighting?
