Hi,

I went to a jeweler tonight and looked at some settings. When I asked if I could see the gia report for the side mounted diamonds he told me that those stones are ''too small'' and don''t have GIA. Maybe he just didn''t have them certified? Is it standard practice not to get small stones included in settings certified by GIA?

What size were the stones? It is very common not to have smaller stones certed. I don't think I'd ask for a cert on anything below .30ct's.

eta: the reason for this is price. You'd have charge a premium for small stones that are certed. It's not cost effective.

Yup - at those sizes sending them out to be certed by the major labs would result in net loss for the most part

makes sense, I think they were around .3 each, how then to verify that they are real?

Under .30''s generally are not certed, though on BN you can find them as small as .25 with certs.

If you doubt they are real then it is not the jeweler for you

A qualified independent appraiser should be able to verify for you though.
