Hi there,

I live overseas, my my mother tongue is french, so I hope it'll be ok for you to understand my post.
My husband and I ordered an engagement ring, which will be for our anniversary.
I found a stone and a setting I love at 1215 diamonds.
For some reason, it’s difficult to buy lab grown diamonds in Europe, but you have many possibilities in the US.
The stone I chose has the following numbers (IGI) :
Weight : 1.42 carat
Depth : 60.7 %
Crown angle 34.5°
Pavilion angle : 41°
Table 59%
Color H
VVs2
And on the certificate, they say it’s a Type IIa
Cut Grade Ideal
Symetry Excellent
Polish Excellent
Fluo : none

HCA is 2.1

I saw a video and I loved the stone.
But now, I’m afraid because of the 59% table …
Is it that bad … ?
I have not yet received the ring, it has not yet been shipped …

Thanks in advance for any thought about that ...

Bonjour!

Welcome to the forum :)

Your English is excellent! (Much better than my French :D haha)

The HCA score of about 2 indicates the crown angle and the pavilion angle should work well together and give good light performance :)

The table of 59% and the depth of 60.7% suggests it is a '60/60' stone - i.e. around 60% for both depth and table.

These stones are a different type of cut to the AGS / GIA 'ideal' and 'super-ideal' stones many Pricescope members like, but there are also members who like 60/60 stones :)

The light performance is likely to give more 'white light' return and less 'coloured fire' - the crown facets between the table and the girdle are smaller (because the table is near the larger end of the usual range) so there is less opportunity for dispersion of light (into fans of rainbow colours) to take place.

If you have seen the stone and like its performance, that is good news :)

What are the Return policies of 1215? Do you have 14?/28? days to assess it?

Can 1215 provide ASETscope images, which would help analyse consistency of the faceting?

Thank you so much for these useful explanations OoohShiny !

1215 offer a 30 days return, which I think, is cool, even though I would prefer not to have to ...

I was not able to get ASETscope or other images other than the 360° video and the IGI report, as the diamond was not put on hold and I was afraid of losing the opportunity.

I loved the video but I'm not sure these are 100% accurate ...
Anyway, your comments helped me to calm down ! Thanks a lot.

Oh, and also, I was so happy 1215 Diamonds do ship to my country !!
James Allen don't, and we first ordered at Brilliant Earth, who accepted the order and the money ... just to write a message 3 days afterwards saying they don't ship here ... It then took several days to get the money back ...
All is good now, and the ring should be shipped by 1215 on Friday.
Fingers crossed !

A generous Returns policy is good :)

(Make sure to read the 'small print' to confirm if it needs to be with them on day 30, or just sent on day 30!)

Videos do not accurately portray how diamonds appear in real life - they are 'monocular', but we have two eyes and 'binocular' vision, so different facets can look different to each eye... which is (I think) how Scintillation works :)

When it arrives, look at it in a wide range of lighting - spotlights, cloudy skies, bright sunlight, diffused indoor light (uplighters), candlelight, etc. - so you can learn the 'character' of the stone.

I am sure you will love it :) but you have the option to swap it if it is not 'the one'! :))

Looking forward to seeing it on your finger @Diamonds are forever
Thanks Daisys and Diamonds, I can't wait ! :mrgreen2:

Thanks OoohShiny, I will check the small prints and I think I'll look at the stone more than needed :lol-2:
It will be my first big stone (1.42 seems big to me). The biggest one I have had until now is 0.2 ...
Now I read on the forum about the syndrom (can't remember how you call it) which makes your stone appear smaller and smaller after you have been looking at it for a long period of time... and I'm a bit afraid 1.42 will not stay "big" in my mind forever
(I'm not really afraid, I'm joking)

DSS - Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome

It seems very common amongst Pricescope members! :D lol

I think your stone will look impressive for a long time :) so I hope you like it when it arrives and enjoy it always! :))

Oh that's a great size! I'm waiting for a 1.39 ct myself hahaha! In Sweden, where I am, 1 ct is view upon as huuuuge and I think <0.5 ct is the norm so to speak (but it is changing), is it similar in France?

Hopefully DSS will not hit us too soon;).

I live in Switzerland, where I think it might be the same ... but to be honest, I do not see that many diamond rings on my friends or colleagues fingers ...

I received my 0,1 ct solitaire for my 20th birthday (that was ages ago haha), and the 2 of my friends who also have a solitaire, also received them for a birthday.

When my husband and I got engaged, I was 18, and we chose two thin gold bands, same one for each of us
It was 30 years ago, so quite a long time too haha. And this year marks our 25th wedding anniversary.

Proposals and enagement rings are something quite recent here, I think.

Generally speaking, it's very rare to find 1 carats rings in shops here.
And there are practically no lab grown diamonds, which was THE point for me (no mined diamond). I loved Brilliant Earth as they also use recycled metals ... but unfortunately, they do not ship here.

And you, are you waiting on your ring for your engagement ?
Do you have other diamonds ?

me too ! =)2

Congratulations! How lovely, I'm so happy for you :).

It's the same here, my parents has yellow gold bands (which I find very elegant) and they are the most common engagement/wedding rings amongst the majority of the population, but it's changing slowly (as stated in a previous post).

I'm currently waiting for my engagement ring :).

I wish we had known about lab grown diamonds sooner but now we know and it feels good to us.

I have a mined mrb, 0.70 ct, that we are going to sell (it doesn't sparkle much at all and I *love* sparkle), other than that I have a tiny flower ring (gold) with pave diamonds(gift from fiance) and a pair of teeny tiny diamond studs (don't know any specs) that I wear almost daily. I'm very grateful for my little collection and can't wait to add some new pieces down the line (if possible).

What kind of setting are you getting (if you don't mind me asking)?

Would love to go to Switzerland some day btw :).

Very nice to see a collection growing :)

Regarding the setting, my husband had made a pre-choice and I totally agreed with his thoughts. He said he I would probably like to be able to see the stone very well, so no halo, no bezel. We also prefer something very simple.
So I was very very happy with the Edit Classic from 1215 Diamonds and that's the one I chose.
I love that it has 6 prongs and I'm in love with it's shape.

It's this one, but I chose platinum :

Can't wait to see it in person.

We had chosen something very close at Brilliant Earth, but I was (already) afraid to lose the stone as it had only 4 prongs. It was beautiful too though, but at 1215 they have similar settings with 4 or 6 prongs and that was a very good thing.

When should you receive your ring ?

Oooh I love it! Very elegant! It's going to be so beautiful! Yes six prongs seems more secure:). Hope you get it soon, can't wait to see it!

The setting is being made at the moment, so with a bit of luck hopefully this month :).

Great ! looking forward to seeing this ring !!

I received the ring today !
It's perfect !
I can't tell if the diamond is this or that, but I love it. A lot !
My only problem is that it seems quite impossible to take really good pictures of it
I'll try and post some later.
I'm a happy girl !

Can’t wait to see a photo!

It looks beautiful!!! Super elegant on your pretty hand!

me too ! =)2

i had a wee look on their website and it told me they do not ship to NZ

Nice! That looks classic and lovely, and the stone looks like it is performing very well - congratulations! :))

(And yes, they are very hard to take photos of! lol)

Thank you all :)
@Daisys and Diamonds,as far as Switzerland is concerned, they told us their insurance did not allow them to ...(which is strange ... they ship to Italy, Spain, Greece, but not Switzerland ...:???: )
