Dear Members

Can anyone tell me if its safe to buy from this company, I was at a jeweller today in Sydney Australia who told me some bad stuff. I don’t want to mention what in case it’s a jeweler trying to keep me away from the internet

Please help if you can

Mary

No idea about this place sorry never had any dealing with them but the name sounds familiar are they based in W.A?

I can''t advise you but I kind of take what some jewelers say with a HUGE grain of salt I have contacted and seen a fair few jewelers, dealers etc in QLD & NSW and one in particular spent most of his time bashing anyone else I had mentioned I spoke (he also wanted to know where else I had looked) to which in turn turned me off and very little time talking about what I was looking for in a diamond

Did he say anything in particular to make you concerned?

I'm in Sydney as well.

The only Aussie jeweler I'd recommend would be Garry Holloway from Melbourne. Otherwise, buy from the US.

Jewelry from the US is duty free if you know how to do the paperwork to claim preferential duty under the AUSFTA. You will have to pay 10% GST though, but the strong exchange rate helps alot.

To answer your question, yes it's safe. But their diamonds aren't as good as what you can get from the US for the same price.

He said do a google search of WA court cases, I did that but found nothing so I asume its some sort of scare tactic

I did a quick google search and nothing as well.

I have to agree with echelon6 in regards to getting a diamond from the US I have compared the US prices to what I found locally (not Jorgia) and the prices from the US are better overall :).

GL with your diamond search :)

But it is interesting to note that Jogia has been monitoring this thread and thought it best not to comment.

Well since you asked.....

It's not unusual for other jewellers to bad mouth us. After almost 10 years of trading online and many thousands of happy customers, the anti-online jeweller sentiment still exists. Heck, a few years back there was even a petition to ban online jewellers from joining the JAA.

Some other things that jewellers have said about us include:

- Our diamonds are cut in India and no matter how hard Indian manufacturers try, they can never cut a nice diamond and thus all our diamonds are dull.
- Buying online is unsafe.
- Cheaper diamond = lower quality.
- The Ideal-Scope is a gimmick.

Jewellery is a very personal decision and one that requires 100% trust between the seller and buyer. I'd suggest you NOT buy from us if you have any doubts in your mind as to whether or not to trust us.

Regarding pricing between US and Australia - you'll find that for brokered diamonds (ie diamonds sold off a list) will be pretty much the same in price, allowing for about $150 in shipping and customs fees into Australia.

There will always be a better selection in the US than there is in Australia due to a larger population and higher personal purchasing power (although 1USD will hopefully soon equal 1AUD).

Lastly, there are no duties like old times for imports entering Australia. There's a customs fee and there may be customs brokerage fees, but the only tax levied is the GST (10%).

I knew that'd flush you out

We need a few more Aussie merchants on here to build a bit of reputation so echelon, myself and others don't always have to recommend buying direct from the States.

I take it that this means you use the IS?

Actually I just did a thread search on Jogia and did not see anything unfavorable. On one of the threads they seemed to give very detailed analysis of the stone.

Yes we do, but our pictures are a bit of a mess at the moment.

Maybe a bit off the exact topic, but be careful of what others tell you. I am not saying I have purchased from Diamond Exchange (Ice Store) in Melb and Bris (and online in AUS), but they sell AGS certified stones, ideal cuts, with light performance grades, and IS images. Definately being a non-expert, I can''t see a problem with a company that sells AGS and GIA stones and seem to have all the paperwork images to go with it. I can''t remember exactly where but maybe Gemex(?) recommended them as a preffered supplier of diamonds in Australia. And there prices seem great too. I have already got my little rock picked out for when the question is asked! Just my 2 cents.

Jogia Diamonds has been around the Internet as long as I have been. We saw diamonds they were selling among the first to be sold via the Internet, so they are not newcomers to this business. Every sale stands on its own, but I have never heard anyone having a problem with this distant vendor.

I have purchased from Diamond Exchange and I appreciate their presence on Pricescope, but I can't say I had a great experience. Now I don't want anybody to judge them solely on my experience with one agent, so I'm hoping others have posted and will post their experiences and a collective judgement can be made.

Looking back at an email exchange, here are some of the things I went through:

a) constant delays from finding out many days later stones advertised as 'available' were indeed not. Being told that stones were scattered around 'their' other offices in the US, I couldn't understand why 'their' database wasn't updated or why an email couldn't resolve it in a day. I had no idea the database was shared amongst hundreds of unrelated dealers and looking back at the emails, I see how that was disguised.

b) having to settle with a diamond that just happened to be available because of time delays, which was not in the theme of my initial spec. It took 6 weeks from initial contact with a spec to end up with something unreasonably not to spec.

c) The pushing of my spending limit, even after a warning.

d) Confusing information about fire, scintillation and brilliance. I was confused then, now I know the agent didn't really know what they were talking about. It's difficult stuff, but I'd still rather hear nothing than BS.

e) No ICE H&A laser inscription as was advertised. They did offer me a voucher or something to get it done though.

f) Double charging of GST which I had to point out.

g) Just the feeling that I was being bait n' switched with diamonds that were held on-site.

They were polite however and I was probably more angered by having to completely change proposal plans and cancel a jeweler I'd been designing a setting with due to moving overseas.

But next purchase, I might consider them again but only dealing with Johan who seems pretty cool. I couldn't recommend them to a newbie who cares a lot though, as I was.
