Is it possible to see a reflection the inscription?

I'm trying to figure out what this small black hairline is that I'm seeing. I can readily see it from about 12-16" away, but it's not plotted on the AGS report. I circled it in the picture below, although it's actually a little easier to see in real life.

I'm just trying to figure out what the heck it may be. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the diamond, but it's noticable enough to cause concern. Any ideas? If it's a reflection of the inscription, I can live with that.

I can't get to a jeweler to look at it under a loupe and/or get their opinion until Monday, so....

How on earth are you guys atking those pictures!!!

Oh well... there is a prong nearby, so it could be the prong's shadow too. One thing is sure: reflections move and change when the main source of light moves (= rotate diamond infront of light source). It should not appear stuck in one place regardless wether you look at it from above, behind of sideways... like an actual inclusion would.

Not all stuff gets on that inclusions plot, for better or worse.

Yeah, I noticed that, as I rotate the stone the thing that I'm seeing moves as if it is a reflection. I hope that it is a reflection of something like the prong, although it seems to be a very thin line. That picture doesn't capture it well because the line appears broken, I'd say that in real life the line looks to be a couple millimeters in length.

Perhaps if it is a result of the prong it could be tweaked a little so as to eliminate it.

I also can't find it in this magnified, unmounted picture, which may prove your prong theory correct:

Any other opinions would be appreciated...

And here's the cert w/the plotting:

Have you tried to clean it? Sometimes it can be residue from the setting process.

Just wanted to know how things turned out. If I'm not mistaken, you sent the diamond back to DI. I was browsing their inventory and saw your .811 J listed, did you decide not to keep it?

This is a definite possibility. A laser inscription will not reflect in the diamond like that. More than often though after a diamond is set and the ring polished, the black (which is a result from the burning of the laser) generally washes off and is virtually impossible to see, even at magnification.

We'd like to know how you took that picture as well, it's phenomenal!

Rhino might be right on track regarding the residue left over by polishing, sometimes a little piece of polishing rouge can look an awful lot like an inclusion and be pretty difficult to remove which is why jewelers have all sorts of solvents and steamers, etc. at our disposal... Take it in for professional cleaning.
