Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but will it be OK to wear an 18K white gold pendant on a sterling silver solid wheat chain? Will one wear down the other fairly quickly?

In the ideal world, I would get the pendant and the chain in the same metal.. Is it expensive to custom make a pendant in silver (compared to a pre-made/ casting 18K pendant)? Who custom makes silver jewelry?

Hi Cookie :wavey: i wear a 22ct gold pendant on a silver chain and have done so on/off for a couple of years. It will of course wear down but so long as you get a decent weight silver chain i dont think it would be a problem =)

as for the cost, generally i think a custom piece will be more expensive than a cast piece. I would go with what you want most, and for the chain you can always go silver now and get a white gold one down the track...

I'd look at Daniel M for custom silver. If you look through my posts/threads as well as their sold items, you can see some of their work.

ETA: I have no idea on wearing gold and silver, but I think silver would wear down faster?

Wheat chains are pretty sturdy, so I think you'd be ok depending on the weight of the pendant. If it's a heavy pendant and you are going to wear it daily, then you might want to go the custom route. Silver is a much softer metal than gold, but if it is a lightweight pendant, you'd probably be fine.

Many etsy sellers do custom work in silver. Here are a few more in addition to the seller Freke listed above.

You guys are great! I really appreciate your help. I will check the pricing with these etsy jewelers before deciding what to do.

The pendant I am considering is a 39ct moonstone in a simple flower or antique-ish bezel setting (the kind that also suits a cameo). I guess that will be considered heavy? I don't plan to wear it daily, as it is going to be a statement piece, plus I want to protect the moonstone from scratches, etc.
