haha oh, definitely with those eyes

how is your search going anyhow??

Good, I think. Lol. I definitely still love the bev k, antique-inspired settings  . But finding cushions on the internet is hard when you can't determine the performance by a bunch of numbers (other than the lovely AVCs of course). Luckily ... we're going to NYC next month.. might have to take a peek at a few PS vendors. :Up_to_something:

whats your budget again for the stone? and are you basically looking for old style cushions??

we'd like the total to stay under 6k. We both vastly prefer anything that doesn't look like crushed ice. Our other option would be a round, RB or OEC/transitional. I like the big facets. Obviously, an AVC will be out of my range unless it's a very warm colored stone -- which, don't get me wrong, they are completely lovely and wonderful, I just don't know if it would be something I'd want for an engagement ring.

I would most enjoy a plain shank cushion halo in either white gold, rose gold or platinum (slightly worried about nickel allergies for white gold). I am one of the few and far between that vastly prefers the halos that are set in the bezel setting. I've seen some of those with prongs, and some without, so I'm not sure if bezel is the correct term. I think I'm being too picky with the budget we have.

Sorry for the novel. :errrr:

OMG. :o

right! i think its worth getting them to review it. i really love it if i had 2k more for my diamond budget I would have been all over that. then, that gives you a good 2.5+ for a beautiful setting!

I absolutely ADORE it. I sent it to my boyfriend and told him that was now my number 1, as long as JA says it's good. Niel, you're awesome. :appl: Although, why is it graded as a RB? I'm still quite the newb, so I'm not sure what the technical differences are between an OEC and a transitional cut and a round brilliant.

Edit: Apparently my boyfriend does not like culets. :angryfire: I will make him see the light (heh, diamond pun?).

You just tell him "but sweetie I really love them..". its your ring not his Haha

Personay with such a good return pol I'd probably get it home and see.
To your original question. I don't know much about old cuts either, but I guess there are really strict standards to be graded an OEC. And this one doesn't meet those standards. Plus, I think its a transitional cut, so its probably somewhere in between? Not sure. Maybe start a new thread about it? "Old cut experts what do you think " or something like that. I'm no expert I just think that's a really nice find on a reputable online vendor.

I've placed it on hold.

Oh good I saw it was snatched up I was hoping that was you! I can't wait to hear what they say about it.

Hi Niel, :wavey:

The gemologist did not review it yet, as the rep wants me to make a selection of two more diamonds. I didn't realize you had to do all three at once! Anyway, she said she did not think I would be impressed with the performance of the stone. I realize James Allen doesn't carry many "older" cuts such as these, and I wonder if it is getting an unfair comparison to their inventory of MRBs. Do you think I should open a new thread and ask people to help me find cushions and/or ask about the diamond you suggested?

I think your right compared to other MRB it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Are there any vintagy cushions on there now you could have them look st as well? Yes I think starting a new thread might be a good idea. I'm no old cut expert, so others opinions would probably be best. Also, if that one is a dud I'm sure they can help you find another one. They are super good at that! This one may or may not be a winner,I was just so excited to see one on JA how could you not at least get them to review it and give it a chance.
