is it difficult to resize an eternity wedding band?
what are some of the ways jewelers go about doing this?
do they actually cut and add or subtract extra melee stones or do they shave down the inside of the band ??!
I had my eternity band sized down a couple of years ago after losing quite a bit of weight. Conventional wisdom is that it cannot be done, but the jeweller who sized it for me managed it successfully. He works mostly in platinum and made the ring in the first place, but he warned me before he started that there was no guarantee it would be a success and that we might end up with a heap of loose stones and having to make a new ring with them. I was ok with that, because I wanted to keep the stones for sentimental reasons, so we took a gamble.
He was able to take it down 1 UK size and add sizing balls to take it down just a little further. It''s still a bit big, but I can wear it with another band or on my right hand, so that''s ok. There wasn''t much wiggle room for sizing, and I think he was quite surprised it worked so well, to be honest - he said he hadn''t done it before and made it clear that it was something of an experiment. Basically he was telling me I''d need to have the stones set into a new band, but he''d try sizing it first, just in case it was successful.
There was one melee stone left over and the point where it was cut and re-joined is visible (but very tidy looking) so I still love my ring.
