Is it difficult to make ring width smaller? I.E. 2.5mm down to 2.0mm?

Is it a difficult job to make the width of the ring smaller? For example, if the it has a 2.5mm width and you want to make it more dainty to a 2.0mm?

It''s just plain 14ct white gold. Not channel set or anything like that.

I just want to get an idea of how difficult it would be for a jeweler to do. I know it can''t be as simple as getting a ring resized.

For most jewelers this will require a simple ''bump'' of the ring up against a polishing wheel, but understand that the final outcome might not be exactly 2.0 mm.

It’s usually not a problem but I wouldn’t dismiss it as quite as trivial as Todd’s post suggests either. It depends a lot on the design of the piece. Some will be difficult and some will be easy. Most will lie somewhere in between but it is almost certainly possible. Talk to your jeweler about it.

I just talked to my jeweler and she said it wouldn''t be a problem at all. Just a couple hours. Thanks for the advice.

Well I''m basing my explanation on the reference in the post:

Which leads me to believe that it''s a pretty straight forward design such as a band or a solitaire, in which case it is pretty straight forward.

But the more I think about it, what is removing half a millimeter on a 2.5 mm width band really going to accomplish? It''s a pretty minimal difference in terms of what will be visible an arm''s length away.
