Is blue amethyst real or natural?

I found a ring on eBay described as "blue amethyst". I tried looking up the stone all over web but could not find anything. Does anyone know anything about these stones? Thank you.

Can you elaborate? Was the seller a reliable one? Who was it? Was he claiming that the stone was called a "blue amethyst" or was he simply describing the color of this particular amethyst as being more blue than purple? (By the way, this could be discussed in the Colored Stones forum.)
