is an upgrade from .77 carats to 1 carats worth it?

Hi everyone,

I need to have my engagement ring reset and am considering upgrading the center stone at the same time. I presently have a .77 carat diamond. Would an upgrade to a 1.0 carat stone be noticable? Also, what is the best way to upgrade/trade a diamond. My stone was not purchased from a jeweler who has an upgrade policy. Thanks!

Sure, why not? :) At those sizes, I think you would notice a difference. Sorry, I don''t know anything about trade-in policies.

I think so, yes. Probably best to go with the upgrade policy provided by the jeweler you bought the original diamond from. Good luck.

Yes, because think about it- .77 is actually very close to .75. .75- 1.0 is pretty much a 1/4 ct jump! If you want to know exactly how much larger it would be, you can look at the ct weight/ diameter in mm charts to find out.

Since your jeweler doesn't have an upgrade policy (do you want to buy from a PS vendor?- that might be a possibility) maybe you can sell your stone privately (maybe you might have to). Good luck!

depends on the spread of each...

If the cuts are pretty much the same you would notice a difference in size. The easiest way to upgrade is to trade it in where you bought it so I am sorry to see that isn''t an option. Could you use it for a pendant and just purchase a new diamond?

I personally would try to get to about 1.15ct if I were making an upgrade like that. The price per carat is the same from 1ct to 1.19ct and so the increase in cost would be minimized but the size difference maximized. I went from a .80ct to a 1.16ct and it was really noticable.

Dreamer, I like how you think.

I think you will notice it. I would recommend checking the upgrade policy, my current center is a 1.51 ct, and it is a great size for me. I need .5 of a carat to really see a "wow" change. My previous was a 1.10 up from a 1.0. up from a .7 that was traded up from a .5 that I started with. (gee I have had a lot of diamonds!)

I have upgraded and changed shapes, it keeps variety in my jewelry and it is just enjoyable for me.

I have always loved those carat weights right below the price increase points. I had a 1.16ct and now I have 1.66 ct! Perfect

Dreamer, not sure the quote worked in the new version of PS here but I think that is a great way to get a great deal on a diamond going below the next quarter carat range.

I think any upgrade is a good upgrade! :appl:

ditto to butterfly blue! :cheeky:
